please don't let me be misunderstood. Animals. This song has a poignant meaning for me. My family misunderstand me, they are NOT interested in reading and reading is very important to me. They are not interested in my knowledge of military history, physics, football, rugby, psychology. They get confused when I mix up languages ie Guten jour - guten good - german jour day - French. I am one of the most genuine people you will meet I would give anyone my last cigarette. all I want is to be a professor of computer science with a doctorate on AI. and enjoy what I love doing - programming, make people laugh with my er strange sense of humour and help people who don't understand computers as well as I do. Sorry.
Don't worry. You are not alone. Eventually, you will move into a greater circle of friends and associates. Some people are content to live a very mundane existence, and can not comprehend why anyone would aspire to something greater (or they are afraid to try it themselves). Don't let these people break your soul. Be polite, but don't let them slow you down in your quest for better things. Life is too darn short to not reach for the stars. The worst that can happen is you don't touch all of them, but at least you tried, and the experiment will have thus been a success.
I always identified with that song, and I think a lot of creative people do.
In “On Writing”, SK mentioned that he stays in Maine, because that is where his roots are, and his friends are all there.
I have lived in different places, but keep coming back here, for the same reasons. My goal is become a successful writer, and still be able to live where I grew up, but with the benefit of having realized some of my dreams, and at least trying for the others.
AI is an interesting field. The parallels with the biological brain are getting closer (maybe too close, so some safeguards are going to be needed). Having said that, a lot of people could severely use an implant of intelligence…
Shaking the dust of this old town off of my feet:
It's a Wonderful Life
