Yes - I still love this movie. The one with Johnny D is more true to the book, but Gene Wilder is just awesome in this. I can sing every song, and know almost every line. I'm a geek.
I love it, too. Such a strange movie. (Trivial personal note: I used to spend time and money at eBay a lot. One day someone was selling a framed and matted Golden Ticket(!). I ended up with it and gave it to the daughter of one of my friends. She couldn't believe she'd gotten one of the tickets!). I haven't seen the remake, nor read Roald Dahl's book, though he's a favorite author.

Not a geek at all..I thought Gene brought such elements of oddball humor,wistfulness and world weariness to the character,it was just a kid's movie but his performance there was awesome..
