Yes - scared me when I was a kid. I lived for it to come on every year - usually around Easter. Kids these days have no idea what it's like to wait it out to see your favorites.

If that's a still from a movie it looks to me like the movie was showing a painting during a scene. Is that what I'm seeing there?
You are seeing a movie playing on the background of the scene - the scene involves a boat ride through a scary tunnel where there were scary visuals. Early 70s graphics.

Yes - I still love this movie. The one with Johnny D is more true to the book, but Gene Wilder is just awesome in this. I can sing every song, and know almost every line. I'm a geek.
I love it, too. Such a strange movie. (Trivial personal note: I used to spend time and money at eBay a lot. One day someone was selling a framed and matted Golden Ticket(!). I ended up with it and gave it to the daughter of one of my friends. She couldn't believe she'd gotten one of the tickets!). I haven't seen the remake, nor read Roald Dahl's book, though he's a favorite author.

Not a geek at all..I thought Gene brought such elements of oddball humor,wistfulness and world weariness to the character,it was just a kid's movie but his performance there was awesome..

Have you seen a picture of Gene lately? He is looking horrible. I am very afraid something is wrong.
Oh my lord, he's 80 years old. I guess it's just old age. I can't believe he's that old. I see him young in my mind's eye.
