He creates characters who show emotions. For some it is there only flaw. But to me this emotion seems real and I like stories about real people. So I read King.
I didn't start reading king until 2 years ago and the first few books I read were 11/22/63, mr.mercedes, the long walk, joyland. The first really classification of scary book was doctor sleep. So for me wasn't the horror aspect at all. For me it was definitely the storytelling. Absolutely addicted to authors that r good storytellers.
First book, Salem's Lot, picked it up over thirty years ago just 'cause it was there and I needed something to read, that and it looked like a quick one.
He sucked me in so deep it was like I was right there, all five senses tingeled, and he hasn't stopped...what a fabulously consistant travel agent he's been, word(s)!
Oh, and I quickly discovered, his bullies, they always get it, deeeeliciously satisfying most times, I like that in a guy
Why do I read Stephen King books. Well, first because I like them. Second, I can get inside the book; be a part of
it; as if I am standing off to the side watching everything unfold. No other author, I've found so far, does that for
me. One of my English Professors told me a long time ago ' you can be anyone, do anything, go anywhere in a
book'. He was right.
I think for me it's the quality of writing and the variety. You have everything from sci-fi to mystery/thriller in his works, though most people seem to think all he writes is horror.
Because I have been miserable and enjoyed my misery, dreaming my Outside dreams. Because I fled across the desert, and then I followed. Because I see through the eyes of the dragon, because I weave in the rooms of ruin, because I stand and hail Discordia when it comes.
For the insight into human thoughts, behaviors, emotions and motivations..for the heart and soul of the protaganists, and the mystery of the unknown. For the fear of the things that go bump in the night, and the ease of the passing of time as the pages fly by..and because I have been enthralled, thrilled, scared, delighted, amused and genuinely moved by the stories, since about 1978 or so..and am,and always will be,one of the Constant Readers..
