Today the mailman delivered a very nice 1st printing hardback of Shadows 4, the 4th installment in the wonderful Shadows anthology series edited by the late Charles Grant. It was the last book I needed to complete my collection of this series. It contains the 1st appearance of The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands by Stephen and also The Blue Chair by Tabitha King. Took me years to find this puppy!

I just ordered the Bill Hodges Trilogy Slipcase from Cemetary Dance using the leapyear sale. I was going for Salem's Lot, but it wasn't included in the sale :(

I couldn't justify the purchase because I already have the individual slipcases and pre-order for the last one. But I did take a gamble and use the discount on The Straw Man. I have no idea if that book is any good, but it sure sounded interesting.

Isn't Scribner itself releasing the three-book set in a slipcased edition?

My public library is having a used book sale and today I found like new hardcover copies of Duma Key, Just After Sunset, and Mr Mercedes for ONE DOLLAR a piece! Hardcover, look basically unread, $1 each. I still can't believe my luck!!

Finally bought Secretary of Dreams Vol 1 off eBay to go with my Vol 2. Only the unsigned gift editions but still awesome.

I must say, eBay can be quite a head rush. The SoD v1 was only $69.99 max bid last night, and with only one person bidding at that point. I was really optimistic considering I managed to get a pristine copy of v2 a month ago for only $82 from another eBay auction.

Alas, I checked the auction this morning with only 15 mins to go and it was already up to over $100. I started to panic. Didn't know if I should bid at all. And I was driving to work so I had no way to really do anything while on my phone. The clock was ticking. I was listening to more audio books which has become my norm while in my car. Ironically, I was listening to "N." So it seemed somehow fitting that my own OCD should kick in at this moment. I looked at the clock. 9:22am. Which added up to 13. This wasn't looking good. Not at all. But the auction had 4 mins to go, and 4 was a good number. But that meant the auction would end at 9:26am. 17 isn't as bad as 13 but it still was bad. I didn't know what to do. How could I tip these scales that were stacking up against me?

I was suddenly compelled to pull over and ended up in a grocery store parking lot. Opened my eBay app on the phone and checked the status. I didn't know how high this sucker was going to go. But I knew I had only one chance. A number popped into my head. An even number. A good number I thought. I watched with nervous anticipation as the the price began to soar. People bidding by proxy I am sure. The auction timer was counting down. Only 2 secs to go. The price rose to just a hair below what I had set for my max. Then the dreaded words appeared. The auction had ended.

I sat for a moment. My heart racing. My hands became hot and puffy. Sweat began to form. Did I win? Did I lose? A barrage of alerts came flooding into my phone. Email, txt and the eBay app.

I won.

Now, I wouldn't say I got a "bargain" per se, not compared to what it was going for late last night and not compared to what I paid for v2...but considering the only copies of v1 that I have seen on eBay or Abebooks are usually up near the $300+ mark...well then yes...I think I got a good deal. What's more is that I added up the numbers of my winning bid. At first I almost shrieked in my car. 13? No - It can't be! But a sigh of relief came over me. The numbers added up to 14. An even number. A good day.

Now, if someone can kindly point me in the direction of Glenn Chadbourne's house, so I can show up with a fine bottle of wine and beg him to sign these two puppies. Then everything would be right in my world. LOL

I know Glenn personally and have been to his house. I wont give you the address or directions but if you send me a PM with your contact info, I'll send it along to him to see if he'd be willing to sign them for you. He's a great guy so I can't imagine he'd say no. :smile2:
