I Am, a Poem About Myself

I wonder what life would be like on Mars.
I hear a robin outside my window.
I see the possibility of a united humanity.
I want to publish more often.
I am a poet first, an artist second.

I pretend I can move like Elvis.
I feel marginally content.
I need more money.
I worry about the rise in taxes.
I cry when a loved one dies.
I am a poet first, an artist second.

I understand the universe began in a big bang.
I say you can achieve anything.
I dream of traveling in outer space.
I try to write everyday.
I hope humanity will choose peace over war.
I am a poet first, an artist second.

I wonder if the board’s on afire
I hear things have gotten dire
I see my paycheck every week
I want it to take me to Martinique
I am so counting down those days to retire

I pretend the fights will not transpire
I feel it only makes me a liar
I need another long vacation
I worry if I can last the duration
I am so counting down those days to retire

I understand the muck and mire
I say too often “enough... cease-fire!”
I dream of peace and love and joy
I try my best to not let them annoy
I hope 900 some odd days do quickly expire
I am so counting down those days to retire

A masterful work of prose. To be framed and placed upon the wall of the workplace.

My Dear Prufrock,

Have been thinking about your 'game' all week. It has been a lifeline to my creative brain as I have performed mindless tasks for the thousandth time.

Have been writing potential answers to each of these this past week. I average sixteen answers to each posed thought. Have never looked at wondering, thinking or hoping this way, and wanted to let you know I appreciate your spark and this outline. I will post a response for you as soon as i can sort which word goes with the other.

I wonder if I will matter.
I hear their words.
I see their smiles.
I want to believe,
I am important to someone.

I pretend to be stronger than I am.
I feel fragile.
I need to know.
I worry I will never realize that
I am important to someone.

I understand my clock is ticking.
I say, please slow down and wait for me.
I dream of times before and
I try to hold them in my mind.
I hope the future embraces me and lets me know,
I am important to someone.

I wonder what it's like to die
I hear that drowning feels peaceful
I see horrible violence in the world
I want it to stop
I am very frightened

I pretend not to be afraid
I feel anxious all of the time
I need to discover peace
I worry that I never will
I am very frightened

I understand, we're in the same boat
I say I'm okay when I'm not
I dream of pop quizzes I'm not prepared for and working a new job I can't understand
I try to cope
I hope in vain
I am very frightened
