There was a huge argument on FB about Valentine's day just being all commercial, and how it's better to just make your loved one feel special every day. I don't think I spoke myself very well over there, and might not here, but I tried to explain that I cook for my Tall Guy every day. I pay attention to him every day. It shows him that I love him, but there's nothing extra special about that. But when I make him heart shaped pancakes and bring them to him in bed along with a card and a balloon or something, then it's special. He deserves a little extra attention on Valentine's day to make him feel as special as I hope I am to him. Like the picture says, it's not about flowers or money, it's the thought that counts.
And, since it was a guy complaining, I tried to explain that if it's important to his girl, he should accept that and roll with it, even if he doesn't understand it. There's a line in a song that says "If it pleases you, it pleases me." There's wisdom in that.
yes - it's not really a big deal to me - but my husband has said he doesn't want HIS GIRL to be the one without something special on V day. And I'll take it. He also gets the kids a little something.

Yup there will be a card... there's always a card. But do I have to wrap the present? Brown paper bags are just so natural and organic looking. ;)
Oh - you know what I like? My husband will hide a present in cool places - like where I keep the coffee - so first thing in the morning, when it's quiet and I'm alone, I'll open up the cupboard and there's the new SK novel, or a pint of Jager, something like that. Not wrapped - the hiding place is the wrapping. That always thrills me!

My favorite present came the last time my sweetie picked me up at the airport. After a long trip, and a hike to the car, there was a teddy bear sitting in my spot waiting for me. Just because he was happy I was coming home. So maybe that's an idea. If she goes to work or something, sneak out and hide a teddy bear on her seat for her to find.

That Is lovely. I had to giggle when I saw this thread. Was walking out the playground with another mum. She said she had to dash out and get her husband a valentines present. I laughed and said "I can so tell you're a newly wed"... Husband and I don't normally do this now. He considers it commercialisation at it's worst. I often put little notes in his sandwiches, to take to work, he will leave me little notes on the pillow if he goes out for an evening.
If you like stand-up, check out Lewis Black's stand on Valentine's Day on Netflix. Enjoy.

My wife and I went to Lewis Black's show when he came thru our area last year. He was awesome and he stayed around in the lobby of the theater after the show until everyone got to meet him, get his autograph and a picture. He was very nice and cordial.

Wow, how cool was that? Nice to know that he appreciates his fans.
Yeah, my wife and I were both impressed with how nice he was to everyone. He seemed to go above and beyond as far as making sure everyone got a word in with him. We stood in line for about an hour after the show to meet him and were one of the last ones in line. It was a great show.

I think the win-win for you would be to make the bacon ones (that you can eat) but buy her real roses. You might want to have the real ones close by just in case the bacon ones get headed toward the trash can before you can redeem yourself with the real ones. ;)
Just so when you go to eat them don't get them confused. Fake stems are more digestible than thorns!
