Happy Valentine's day, all.

A picture I made for my sweetie.

That Is lovely. I had to giggle when I saw this thread. Was walking out the playground with another mum. She said she had to dash out and get her husband a valentines present. I laughed and said "I can so tell you're a newly wed"... Husband and I don't normally do this now. He considers it commercialisation at it's worst. I often put little notes in his sandwiches, to take to work, he will leave me little notes on the pillow if he goes out for an evening.

They're actually meant to be eaten--well, except for the fake foliage, of course. :)

I got a chuckle from the tag line they'd come up with for a card to go with them:

Hey, baby, what's shakin'?
I just want you to know
I love you more than bacon.

:)
Well if you're paleo all of it's good.

And that's a pick up line if I ever heard one.

And also my wife has been in that vortex, fingers barely gripping the edge

My husband always does a little something. I have to share our first Valentine's Day together: We were newlyweds with a baby, and we were so broke. A big date for us was getting 2 donuts, 2 chocolate milks and the Sunday paper from the convenience store and hanging out together on Sunday mornings. So I didn't expect anything for Valentine's Day that year, but the man made me paper roses - cut, folded, rolled, glued and made 12 sweet little roses for me. It was so touching and sweet. He's a great guy and I'm so blessed.

I got my wife 18 red roses this year set up to be delivered to her work, one for each year we've been married. Not terribly innovative I'm afraid but I'm a bit of dullard when it comes to things like that.....hoping she likes them.

Flowers are always good, and 1 for each year is perfect. We're going on 23 - time flies when you're raising children.

Got sucked into the Pinterest vortex last night and came upon this idea to make bacon bouquets. Sadly, I almost considered doing this but the storm we've got coming in brought me to my senses as it would prevent me from getting any fake flower stems to attach the bacon roses.

I'm going to faint - those are amazing - bacon and I have a long and complicated relationship.

There was a huge argument on FB about Valentine's day just being all commercial, and how it's better to just make your loved one feel special every day. I don't think I spoke myself very well over there, and might not here, but I tried to explain that I cook for my Tall Guy every day. I pay attention to him every day. It shows him that I love him, but there's nothing extra special about that. But when I make him heart shaped pancakes and bring them to him in bed along with a card and a balloon or something, then it's special. He deserves a little extra attention on Valentine's day to make him feel as special as I hope I am to him. Like the picture says, it's not about flowers or money, it's the thought that counts.
And, since it was a guy complaining, I tried to explain that if it's important to his girl, he should accept that and roll with it, even if he doesn't understand it. There's a line in a song that says "If it pleases you, it pleases me." There's wisdom in that.
