Well, I'm sure their opinions were colored as all opinions are. The shirt may have just been to set the theme of the video, and I can't say I disagree with the one's opinion of the book.

They haven't exactly been kind to SK works, though in their previous reviews. I do like NC's editorials, though.

well if the theme of the video was ignorance, and close mindedness, he succeeded with his coloring. IMO of course.

So I just watched the film and I thought it was ok. Had issues with the pacing and the flow of the movie.

Like you see Pennywise and there's this intense moment, and then next thing you know the kids do something hilarious. It was like a constant change of mood at the flip of a switch and every time I got into the scary parts and started getting immersed I was brought right back out of it again immediately. Just really didn't work for me although I will say that the kids were excellent actors and the script was very well written.

I started looking at my watch after a while. I didn't hate the movie, but didn't think it deserved all of the praise it's getting.

Just my opinion.

I meant in the sense of like wearing an IT shirt while talking about IT. Folks do that when they review stuff at times.

I mean I'm not big on the book myself which probably affected my opinion of the film, but overall both are a solid 7/10 for me - maybe 6/10. I'd give kid stuff 7/10 and adult stuff 6/10 in the book. Movie - 7/10.

That first basement scene with Georgie. Oh my.

I could have been fine without Audra in the book, or miniseries. I don't think she is needed in the movie.
Curious Rockym why do you think she is an important character?

Well, for the story, she is important because she is one of the elements that show the losers still remember on a subconscious level. She bears a resemblance to Bev and that's part of the reason Bill was attracted to her and married her. Just like how Bev married Tom, who has a temperament like her father. Not to mention how It uses Tom to kidnap Audra as a way to hurt Bill.

And on a personal level,
they might change it in the second movie and have it end up with Bill and Bev together instead of Ben and Bev, like the book. Though I thought there were a few hints in the first movie that might mean they will go toward Ben and Bev in the second movie
.

Just got back from seeing IT. This was the book that got me into King, and it really holds a special place in my heart. Did the movie live up to my hopes? Mostly.

All the stuff with the Losers was excellent. The fast, snappy, profane dialogue was the best stuff in the movie and the actors were excellent (especially whoever played Richie), they really nailed those parts of the movie. Skarsgard was very good as Pennywise (but I still prefer Tim Curry). I was pleasantly surprised to see references to Maturin, and I loved the lush orchestral parts of the score. I was never bored, it was a consistently entertaining movie.

I only have two problems. The first, I think that the narrative loses something when it is separated from the flashback-flashforward structure of the novel, I think this stunted character development a bit for some of the losers. The second problem, and this is a bit more significant, was the fact I didn't actually find it very scary. There were some creepy images, and I liked the savagery of Skarsgard's Pennywise, but it felt a bit tame. They didn't really delve into the more Lovecraftian elements that make the IT creature scary to me, and even though there was blood, I felt it lacked the real bite and nastiness of the novel.

That said, I still overall find the movie very enjoyable and well-worth the price of admission, far better than most of the crap that is churned out by studios, by virtue of its excellent cast and writing. My second favourite movie of the year thus far, after Dunkirk.

I should add that although I preferred Tim Curry as Pennywise, this was a significant improvement on the miniseries in pretty much every other way.

When I read the book for the first time and was reading about Audra and how she was a movie star, the rest of the book I had Audra Lindley pictured:

Then after Bill and Bev have a brief love affair and Bills like "crap, I have a wife", I'm like "well, maybe Ben and Audra will hit it off.."

Bill seems to have passed out at the shock of his wife taking up with Ben.
This made me giggle. :applause:

Just got back from watching IT a while ago... wow. I loved it. Didn't pee my pants, (thanks for the Depends anyway though, Deejers) but I did at one point wonder to myself if my heart medication was still out in the glove-box of my car.
I scare easily, but thankfully, I think there was some humour coming right up on the heels of most scares and this helped.
The theatre I was in is a small one, (with big couches) and so the sound is absolutely enormous, it makes the ground and walls shake during big scenes, really adding to the atmosphere.
I jumped, had a little squeal moment, swore quite a lot... and at one point exclaimed "uh you bastards, you got me" right after a big fright... and I cried, at least twice, maybe even three times.... some of this was really sad. They did the Bill/and Georgie scenes really well.
(And oh shiit.... the actual Georgie scene in the beginning, I wasn't quite prepared for that!)

These kids are phenomenal in their acting, and as much as I adore Tim Curry in this role, the new Pennywise did a bloody fantastic job.
I did wish that Mike was more of a prominent character... & I fewking hated the early scenes... sheep, you know what I'm talking about... (oh and that reminds me... the cat scene with Henry Bowers, I was like "no, no, no,no.nonononooooo" with my hands over my eyes. I swear, do not come out to the movies with me... I will embarrass you.) I just loved Mike in the book and was hoping for more of that.
Ben was so lovely in the film, just like in the book... Ben, Richie and Bev and actually Eddie too, were all very true to their book selves, Stan was close.
I thought it was quite symbolic that Stan left the group first at the end of the film.

Anyway... I can see Stephen in my minds eye watching this movie and absolutely loving the hell out of it... I think it would have ticked just about all the boxes for him.

I saw the Georgie scene on you tube; I wasn't prepared for that either...

they actually did both in the novel. they did the whole cutting palms and swearing they'd come back

don't sell yourself short, i've read it about every year for the last 20 or so, and i'm thrilled with the movie
I don't remember that in the book at all. Man! I need to read this thing again. I didn't want to before the movie because I didn't want to lock myself into, "they should've done this or included such and such." With that scene and what you describe above, to me, it satisfies that connection that was needed.

And yes! Bev WAS still a badass!

Yes, I would embarrass people too. I was alone and during sheep/cat scene -- I actually whispered out loud, "I can't watch this" and covered my eyes too. And I was alone..

Of course, Georgie's arm gets ripped off and I watched that just fine. I don't know what that says about me.

I am fine with watching something like an arm/leg getting ripped off but I cannot, Cannot, CANNOT watch someone being cut! What does that say about me? :Oo:

Really good movie. Kids were well cast and had great chemistry. Found the setup to the climax a bit clunky and disappointed they went the damsel in distress in routine to get there. Minor quibble but it's what keeps this movie from being a classic instead of just really good.

the new pennywise guy is claiming he now has 'pennywise-nightmares' and cant do 'promotion'... and
he maybe wont be able to do a sequel ... ...
...
i hear, smell and taste dollar signs

he didn't really say any of that, other than the part about having weird dreams. the rest of it was hack internet "reporters" drumming up asinine headlines that had nothing to do with what was said.
