Plot: A more loose modern retelling of Homer’s Odyssey following three escaped Convicts as they search for a treasure one supposedly buried before his arrest, although the journey for the “treasure” will bring along more than they bargained for.
Review: Certainly not a bad flick, it was a little hard to get into at first, but it eventually got more immersive. Not really a film where the macguffin is important , but instead the adventure. The soundtrack was the best part, and it really gave the film its voice. I think the kind of light grainy lighting they used for this film really complimented it well, giving off the idea that the story was aged and had happened a long time ago. As for camerawork, there was this one use of staging I particularly liked in the
KKK rally scene where they have to rescue Tommy from being Lynched by the Klansmen. The shot in particular focused on the center Klansman on the platform, while the others marched in lines in front of the camera, really giving off a sense of uniformity
. Overall an enjoyable film. I wouldn’t call it anything spectacular, but it’s worth watching if you haven’t already. 7/10
The Book of Henry
Naomi Watts and Dean Norris are in this, and Jaeden Lieberher, the kid who played Bill in IT. It is a sweet little movie. Some dark elements for sure, but overall a very sweet movie.
The Shape of Water
I really liked this one. Can see why it won the Best Picture Oscar. Michael Shannon was excellent as always.
The Jungle Book (2016) It was ok but I like the animated one better.
Pete's Dragon (2016) Loved this one. It made me cry!
Even though Video Game adaptations are notorious for being bad, who even decided that Rampage needed an adaptation? From the trailers it seems like they don’t even follow what little plot the original arcade game had

I want to see the first two you mentioned. Michael Shannon is great in Shotgun Stories and Bug...well, everything he does. I watched an older movie called Maps to the Stars that was very disturbing and surreal.

I have to admit, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. The three stooges antics between the three main characters were hilarious and it's my favorite George Clooney role to date. Clooney's portrayal as the "brains" of the operation was very funny. The soundtrack was one of the better ones I've ever heard.

Bug was and is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. There are parts of it that I can't get out of my head. I will certainly never forget it.

I watched "Bird Box" on Netflix and really, really enjoyed it!
I thought it captured a spooky and foreboding post-apocalyptic vibe (if that's what you're into!). The premise was pretty interesting and they don't overexplain it but it makes enough sense to keep you invested. LOTS of intense moments, Sandra Bullock was great (as were many other actors) and it had a very solid ending.
In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods.
This movie got all kinds of critical acclaim???? Why??? I was a fan of avant-garde films and TV series of the sixties… 2001: A Space Odyssey, Easy Rider, Barbarella and The Avengers. But this movie missed the mark if that was the feel they were going for, and IMO this film was just plain stupid with a terrible ending.

I'm in the process of slogging through this. I got interrupted watching it and haven't felt any great need to return to it anytime soon. But, I'll get it finished.
Colin Farrell works with Yorgos Lanthimos on Lobster and (screenwriter/producer/director) on The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Also a very odd, weird movie. I talk about it here in this thread I think? Somewhere anyway.
The flat affect of the characters in both films is off putting and quite frankly, about as interesting as watching a sloth nap.
I saw some Hallmark movie with Andy called "An Uncommon Grace" - not a bad movie and Kelly McGillis was in it - I still thinks she looks quite nice - older and heavier but still very nice looking. She looked like someones Grandma (which was the part she was playing).
