For me this is like a friday! Tomorrow is the swedish national day. The day is our day because it was the day when Gustav Vasa was crowned 1523 as a swedish king and marks when sweden became its own kingdom again. There had been swedish kings before but the period between 1397 and 1523 was dominated by denmark and the Kalmar Union. They but puppet kings on the swedish throne, often german nobles like Eric of Pommern or Albrecht of Mecklenburg, that were totally dependent on the danish king. The danish king at the time, Kristian II is known in Sweden as The Tyrant but in Denmark as Farmers friend or The Good. He massacred the nobles of Sweden in 1520 in an event known as Stockholms Bloodbath but Gustav escaped, rallied the the few nobles remaining and the farmers of sweden and won sweden its independence back. He and his followers on the throne fought many battles with denmark to keep sweden free from danish influence. So tomorrow we celebrate and don't have to go to work.
Have a great holiday!
Sorry - I meant have a great day off and I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation in Corfu.

Have some Swedish meatballs (I've never actually tried the ones at IKEA - do you know if they are any good?)

Hello Tet - I'm so behind here! I feel like I've been gone forever. I'm here - I'm OK, you're OK, and everything is going to be absolutely fine.

I've had a time recently. As many of you know, I work in a church and we've had two recent, close together tragedies. I won't bog you down with the details. But that's where I've been. Beginning on May 26th and wrapping up yesterday and I'm beaten - most often I'm standing on the sidelines of the tragedy, seeing to all the details and tasks to be done. But both of these were kind of personal for me though, and tough to get through. Always a reminder to me to be grateful. My family is whole right now. Kiss everyone you love, tell them you love them, nothing matters more than that - ever - be kind to strangers - you never know what someone is struggling with.

Moving on -
my favorite wine suddenly reappeared!! Just in time, eh? I'd run out of options and poof - there she be! White Queen Chardonnay. And I'm grateful for that. Otherwise - over cubed ice: 1 part Absolut Citron/3 parts Perrier/ lil squeeze of lime - and I like to float the lime in my glass. Summer patio cocktail - goes well with shrimp on the barbie and citronella candles. Very refreshing. I do love some Jager, but it's a cold weather drink to me.

I'm still falling asleep to Great British Baking Show - I can't get enough. And I can't stay awake long enough to watch the entire episode. I've been at it months now. That Mary Berry cracks me up - she was on TV at some horse race or maybe polo thing this past weekend - I was so happy to see her! She's the Tim Gunn of baking shows.

I saw Sundrop Sunny on the effbee (she's gorgeous BTW!) and heard about Pearl. So sad - and dammit!! Keep your pets on a leash world! We've got some neighborhood roamers and it makes me nuts.

Neesy - I've got horrible allergies and they effect my eyes. I finally went to the eye dr - got a steroid drop, learned I've got a bit of dry eye too. So I did a course of the steroid drops. For daily issues I do a couple of drops of Zatador (OTC antihistimine drops), then some Refresh drops and finally some Lumify drops for the redness. I also take an allergy pill only when it's awful because that makes me kind of loopy and I don't need an extra dose of that.

DiO'Bolic Congratulations to your girls!! Of course she's gorgeous!!
Did I read that your girlfriend finally got out of jail? Do tell.

Kurben with a tan? :swoon:!! Glad you had a nice vacation!! Happy day off!

Notaro Congratulations on being un-moderated!!

Did anyone notice the Green stop sign meme said "sing" not "sign"? Or did I miss a point?

All my short story reading friends: please forgive my absence. It's been surreal around here. Work follows me home in my heart. But I'll be back on it soon. I've been amusing myself by reading Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty out of order. It's got that same kind of format that Big Little Lies had and I just didn't have the patience for it. So I skipped to the back, found out what the big reveal was and now I'm reading it like a series of out of order interconnected short stories. I think it was poorly edited and I could have done better. It's a decent story, mostly.

OK - I'll stop. I just miss you. You're my friends and I'm bummed when I can't "see" you!

Have a wonderful weekend!!
Be cool!

Yes! The "sing" was kinda shouting in my face.

Great to see (((you))) lovey, I'm so sorry to read of your recent tragedies.

Edited: due to it being very late here and my idiot-brain not realising that in my wish to be light-hearted I actually missed a very important connection.

(((Hollygirl))) So sorry to hear about your work tragedies. It's nice to "see" you here!

That patio cocktail sounds right up my alley, thank you!

And Mary Berry - She cracks me up!! Both my mom and my kiddo love GBBS so I watch it with them sometimes. Much more fun than the American version!

Interesting way to read Truly, Madly, Guilty. You do you, as the kids say! :D

Love and green lights to you and yours!!:love_heart:

Gasp! o_O

Stephen King would be appalled - I'm sure I read somewhere in one of his books that this is very bad - you broke a cardinal rule! Go say two Hail Marys and an Our Father and all will be forgiven :shame:

HollyGolightly so good to see you. Yep, life sure can get in the way of life. Positive thoughts for all that disrupt the serenity of your days. Worry nit about the reading group-- threads are always open for any comments. Be well, and take care of you!

Just thought I'd check in here so you don't think I dropped off the edge of the world. I mysteriously injured my knee a couple of days ago and it's a struggle to sit at a regular chair right now and type on my desktop and my ipad is too difficult to type long messages on. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong yet but I'm going to an Orthopedic today and I'll probably get fluid drained. I had x-rays yesterday and everything looked ok. I have an MRI coming up too. I think this happened when bend down to unplug a cord. I felt a sharp pain behind my knee cap but it went away and everything seemed fine. The next day, my knee was swollen and I could barely move it. Anyway, I'm going to hobble away from my desk now.

You know you're getting old when you hurt yourself unplugging a cord. :)

Amen to that! You're preaching to the choir here. I rolled over in bed last week and twisted my knee that's been acting up on me for a while now. :) Hope they get you feeling better soon!

Hope you both feel better soon :)

p.s. fljoe0 - was worried you had been eaten by one of those large aquatic reptiles down in Florida!

p.p.s. (Just learned something new) -

"Crocodiles exist both in freshwater and saltwater, whereas alligators prefer freshwater environments. The Florida Everglades is the only place on earth in which both alligators and crocodiles coexist."

I was just getting ready to ask if anyone had seen you. We've missed your input in the weekly story.

Hope they find out what you did and can get it fixed quickly and painlessly.
