New Zealand went into complete lock-down at midnight tonight. Only essential service workers are to be out and about in the community from the morning onward for a minimum of 4 weeks. One nominated person per household will be shopping. (numbers greatly reduced inside supermarkets) All doctor/or nurse consults are to be via phone or video-link, if they're required to be seen at a clinic--they have to have had the virtual consult first. All essential services are still running.
Police and army will be moving people on if they're not following the lock-down protocols out in communities.
We have a real chance of minimising the losses if we do this right.
Wait, wait, wait, I can still come for The Hobbit tour thought, right? :)

Here they are still trying to keep stores of different sorts open. Reduced in costumers they are but still open. They have closed universities and the higher school years but the lower schoolyears and childcare are still open, the thought being that if they closed many wouldn't be able to go to work. The prime minister has held a speech on national television (something which almost never happens here) where he spoke on what can be done and what we must do, Spoke of solidarity, how we must help eachother get through this. Mentioned shopping for a neighbour if he couldn't and similar things. It wasn't political at all.

"Every act is political and, whether one is conscious of it or not, the presentation of one's work is no exception. Any production, any work of art is social, has a political significance. We are obliged to pass over the sociological aspect of the proposition before us due to lack of space and consideration of priority among the questions to be analysed."
Daniel Buren
Randomly thouhgt of this as I went through your post, trust me, the Prime Minister is thinking about future elections, friend. If he doesn't approach this situation well, then he'll certainly know about it in the polls. I wish that was the same in the UK, the Conservative Party leader, over here, could shoot a man and they'd still get a majority.

Those drugs have been out for decades.

What white flag? What are you going on about? Nothing will stop it... NOTHING! Selective social distancing make sense early on until a cure, or something that works out of what is already out there, is utilized. At some point all this shutdown stuff will need to end or the economy will collapse… and we’re soon approaching it. A stand must me made. I think the states that recommend social distancing should be utilized, work from home if you can, and encourage companies that need to stay open do what they can is the best tactic.
Dio, Dio, Dio ... in a pandemic, does the economy really matter? That dollar isn't everything.

In that sense yes but what i meant was that there was no talk of other parties, that, btw, are keeping a rather low profile since they seem to agree that we must go through this together and think it would be in very poor taste to make national politics of a pandemic. But of course yourr correct in so far as a politician everything he says and does has an impact on his standing.

Strange days. The truth is hard to find and there are many conflicting analyses. Use common sense and avoid touching your face and most everything else. Wash those hands. Help your neighbours. Don't worry about money, as it'll impact your health even more. The psych is just as bad as the soma in terms of weakening your immune system, so wash that as well (with inspirational memes?). For those facing economic crises, I wish you the best. To those I have burned in the past, I apologize. On a similar note, I will practicing the 'urine' method of sanitizing, if it works for jelly-fish stings it only makes logical sense that it'll work for respiratory illnesses as well. Pee-se, mal

Are you prepared to survive the way life was before capitalism? Simple questions... How many crops have you grown?
Dio, Dio, Dio, you're making it seem like we're heading into medievil times if the country is shut down for a while. If the US was to follow China's example, then they could easily stop the spread of this virus. The government saying, "well, we gotta protect the economy because ... well ... you know ... the dollar ... and Corona isn't all that bad anyway ..." Is a very materialistic approach.

No economy means no food, no electricity, no running water, no medicine, no internet, no transportation, no toilet paper, and no SKMB. You tell me... does it matter?
The best way to maintain those things is to not have more people getting sick by containing it. In other words, sacrifice now and stop going out as much as possible so you won't be accidentally infecting others and we'll get through it sooner than later.

Exactly, if the US takes a short term hit, through extreme measures, then this will deflect the LONG TERM effects.
