Dog person all the way. Some of my best early childhood memories are of playing with our dog, Waldo. (My brother and I were big fans of the Where's Waldo? books back then.) Just a mutt we got from the pound, and he ended up being the greatest dog that ever lived. Don't try to tell me otherwise.

Don't get me started on cats. There are 2 of them living in my house right now. I'll just say I'm not a fan and leave it at that.

All cute! But maybe not Ben.....

Ha! I thought about Ben...No~~~~o_O

Ms. Tery, Imma going to tell you a story of a pet.

So, my canine companion, Puppy, (I'm pretty sure I've mention my Puppy before) at night, was batting at something on my front lawn. Puppy seemed to be very interested in something I couldn't see. I went over and saw...a baby...rabbit? Puppy was checking it out. I picked it up and went to show my Daddy. Daddy said it wasn't a rabbit but a a hare. A baby hare. (We had a bosque near by.) Daddy told me it was very young and without it's mother he would die of starvation. I was very young and hated the idea. Ms. Tery, I didn't like the idea that it would die. Of starvation. Please don't ask because I sincerely don't know. Babies need to eat, right? This baby hare is going to die if it is not fed.

I took the baby hare to my room and my little 9-10 year old mind wondered. Wondered and wondered. I went looking for a Dristan bottle. I found a Dristan bottle, unscrewed the top (who knew) emptied it and , thinking...babies need milk! And water! I put some Carnation milk and water in it. Yes, ma'am, I sorta kinda forced the bay hare to open it's mouth and I >>>sqeeezed<< the bottle. Poor baby hare had to swallow or drown. It swallowed! Yay!

I Think I had it for awhile. I would come home on the school bus (Okay. I would be in middle school to be on bus so....11 years old?)

I would run into my room and tap my fingers on my bed (again, I don't remember how or why) and Hare would come out! Yay!!! (Yes, I named him Hare. Kill me.) One afternoon I came home, went straight to my room, tapped my fingers on the bed....tapped my fingers on the bed...tapped my finger on my bed... No Hare.

I asked Momma, where is Hare?

Momma told me she had taken Hare to her sisters house and put Hare in the rabbit cage.

Ms. Tery, ... Hare was cannibalized. S/he was torn part and eaten.

My Hare ~~~

That's horrible! Poor thing. I do know what you mean about babies. We rescued this one from the kitty and released it. Not sure if it survived but we can't just leave them to die, right?

That's a catastrophe! Cataclysmically and categorically! You must be catatonic ;;D

A Dog Person all the Way.

My Parents never had a Dog, though i raised up with Dogs.
My Granparents always had a Dog and my Uncle was a Dog Trainer at the British Army here in Germany.

Everytime we visited him i was delighted about these Dogs (Dobermans)
One time, i was 8 or 9 or so, i found an open Kennel with more than 10 Dogs and walked into it.

I was sitting there, with all these Dobermans and "played" with them like usual Pets

My Parents and the Staff sought for me and then they found me there in this Kennel and my Mom almost got a Heart Attack.

I always wanted a Dog, but i always lived alone, with long and flexible working Hours....that wouldn`t be fair to the Dog.

Thank you for all your replies. :love_heart:

I was talking to a friend about maybe getting a dog but I'm afraid I don't have the time to exercise, play with and keep company etc. and he suggested a cat.

From what I've read, heard and posts here on the SKMB, cats are independent, solitary and don't need, nor want, a lot of interaction with their human(s). My friend has two cats and this is exactly why he has cats-not a lot of *work* or interaction and why he suggested I get a cat. Well...I really don't want a companion who sees me as a can open and litter box cleaner =D . Also, I've seen cats who are dead to the world sleeping, startle awake, intently look off into the distance, and run in the other direction as if the devil himself is coming! Nope. Not for me.

I remember I was visiting with my BIL andhe has a cat. We're talking and chilling. He sees the cat on the mantle pushing a do-dad off the thing. Joe said, NO~~~ NO~~~~. The cat looked over to him, looked him straight in the eye and slowly pushed the gee-gaw off the mantle. No one tells me what to do, can opener, he seemed to say.

Have a great weekend.

Peace.
You should not get a Siamese cat then - it's been said they are close to a dog as any cat can be.

Your post was pretty funny by the way - you have good writing skills! :m_clap:

Have a great weekend Siggy! :encouragement:

The question about being a dog or cat person always brings to mind this movie from the 80s

:applause: I loved that stupid movie!

I am primarily a dog person. I have known some really awesome cats in my day, however I have also known some irritable, annoying, scratch-you-as-soon-as-look-at-you, obnoxious felines. I am convinced if I ever tried to get a cat, I would end up with the latter.

You should get a Maine coon cat - I heard they grow them pretty big up there!

I grew up with both, but I'm basically a cat person. There are dogs I've gotten fond of, but they are a lot of work. Being a cyclist I have also been chased by dogs and that is scary. Good dogs don't wear a sign so you have to be wary of all of them. I do like the arrogance of cats. But I have had cats that were very loving and would nearly talk to you. One cat we had would just stretch out and let you get the stickers out of his fur. This same cat would jump up in your arms and turn on his back for you to hold him like a baby. So definitely cats.

That movie was a great example of what a cheesy concept for a scifi/thriller movie should be when done right.

Here's my only issue: I watched it with my dad, who was just a great guy but a self-avowed "dirty old man." The comments that he made during the movie were... well, off-putting. I was trying to engage in my willing suspension of disbelief, and he was commenting on the charms of Ms. Kinski and what was being done to her. I mean, damn, Dad. Come on. The movie is more than looking at some bits.

This is TMI, right? That's what this site does to me.
