My last job. When filling out paperwork in regards to insurance and all that..
The HR person asked about dependents. I said no, none.

You don't have children? No, I don't. What? You have no one?
No, I say.. Then I felt like I had to make someone up.

She was absolutely baffled and horrified.

Sorry lady, but thanks for making me feel bad about it.
Yes! thank you! That happened to me with life insurance. I told them I was going to put my mom on there and the automatic response was what about your children or your spouse? I replied I'd rather not have my hard earned money given to my invisible kids or spouse. The woman still didn't get it. Then she proceeds to tell me that I will most likely outlive my mother. Well thank you for that too. Sheesh!

I can so relate. People assume too that my life must be sad as I never married nor had kids. I do wish things were different for sure but I try to make the best out of what I have and try not to focus on what I don't have. But it's people like this woman who actually apologised to you when realising you had no children that get me down. I do get the "oh I'm sorry" looks myself and they're the ones that get to me.

Here, there and everywhere.
Republicans - white, male vampires in business suits who want to crack the earth open like an egg and suck the oil out, and when it's gone, use the blood of illegal immigrants and women as fuel to run their SUVs and heat their mcmansions.

Democrats - dreadlocked women in clogs and tie-dyed caftans, having abortions as a competitive sport and/or reproducing at warp speed, hoping for SSI benefits so they can support their drug-using boyfriends and buy heirloom tomato seeds for their community garden.

I'm so tired of assumptions, and when people sneer "Republican" or "Democrat," with no hint that these are all people who probably agree on 70%+ of issues but can't resist the urge to fight back when one little point is not conceded, it drives me freaking nuts.

WOULD ALL MODERATES OF BOTH PARTIES KINDLY FIGHT YOUR WAY TO THE FRONT OF THE LINE AND SAVE THIS COUNTRY!!

What a great post. I can relate in a number of ways. I'll try to be succinct (unless that's gay). I actually married someone I wasn't in love with largely because I felt so estranged from my social environment at the time. I worked a home care case for three months before the mom asked that I not return. I'm convinced it was because she couldn't process the idea of a single man with no kids unless he was gay, and so that she must've been a homophobe. She was always suspicious but I couldn't figure out why.

I hate all personal bias. (Those who really know me at the SKMB know this about me since they've read me post it so many times so far. I'll continue to post it.) And so I hate most all assumptions about things including people.

My friend from India. She owns a small store and I visit her every day if I am out and about. We have talked of everything....of the troubles with terrorism...of her kids driving her crazy....of just how much snow we are going to get this year. LOL ....She wears a bini on her forehead and listens to all the Hindu music of faith....I know that is what it is because I dated a guy from India and quite enjoyed it myself. I figured she was Hindu or Catholic...because most Indians I know are either. She thought I was an athesist. We were both wrong and we had a great laugh. I am Christian who prefers the Salvation Army...she is Pentecost. Oh well. You live and you learn for sure.
