Truthfully, I didn't like this one too much. It seemed to merely be a long setup to a punch line. Haven't read it in a long time, so maybe I'd find it to be better than I thought it was on a second read. What did you like about it?

I have to say I'm not sure the tarot-card joke was worth it to organize these stories using a deck of cards (as mentioned in the foreword). I just didn't think Autopsy was first-story material after reading Night Shift and Skeleton Crew. I agree that it felt like a setup to a punchline because the entire beginning is almost unnecessary, with the reader well aware of what's coming by the end of the second page, and because I thought the whole the golf course story was a little prosaic for King. I mean, how many things can be lurking in the rough at a golf course? I was hoping for a little more than
a boner and a last-second reprieve
. Ideally, I was hoping whatever got him would be something like what you'd see out the window of Mrs. Todd's car on her shortcut. But it was certainly a twist.
