Tell me more about this sweet car dealer.
oh,I don't mean they would do it for free, but they are used to car shipping, dealer trades, and have drivers that run them back and forth..of course it would add on to the price, but for an older rx,wouldn't increase your payment much..unless you have cash of course, then what the heck,go take a vacay and drive back in your car!

I leaned to use stick when I was 16 on a VW convertible Bug. At 17 I learned to use a manual stick on the steering wheel of an old Impala. Anybody remember manual sticks on the steering wheel?

th

Yup I remember them on old Vauxhalls in the UK. I also had an old Renault that had a stick shift which came out of the middle of the dashboard (is that the same word in the US?)

Edit - like this it was:

I learned to drive in an old Vauxhall with a stick shift on the steering wheel. I think it was a '56. It was tricky - reverse seldom worked and second gear wouldn't work half the time - usually when I'd have to downshift while making left turns. I always had to find parking places I didn't have to pull out of in reverse and sometimes I'd take a left by making three rights lol.

I'm sad.
My car is officially totaled. I said goodbye today.

The only other kind of car I'd really want is a Porsche, either a 911 Carrera or a Cayman.
I know repairs are expensive and they go through tires quickly.
I know it's an extravagance.
But, Man, do I want one.
Am I being silly?

I have wanted a Porsche since I was a little girl. My dad and brother always had sports cars, so I was introduced to them young. I mean, it's my dream car. When I see one, my heart literally beats harder.
The logical side of me says not to get one. It's not practical. Will my insurance be a lot of dollarations? Will the repairs wipe me out? Then again, do they need repairing that often?
My boyfriend says, Go for it, but he wants me happy, and he knows how happy it would make me. Should I indulge myself? Should I say YOLO, and enjoy the rest of my time here on earth? Most people don't understand how much I love to drive. They just see it as a way to get from here to there. But I LOVE it. Going fast, changing gears, feeling the power, downshifting, driving the curvy roads, going faster than everyone around me...

So what say you knowledgeable people on the board? Talk me into it. :)

....here's what I suggest....find something inexpensive you can do your daily commutes with, and live with to boot-then save your shekels for the Porsche-and indulge your love....

So you think that I'd go out to the driveway, look at the inexpensive car and the Porsche sitting there, and think, Yeah, I won't drive the Porsche today? I can't see it happenin. ;-D

My sister had a 911. It was nice, but crazy how many beat up cars would rev engines next to us, wanting to race. Used to ride around in girlfriends/boyfriend one. (don't know what model) again fun, but the same thing.

I agree with GNT on this one. Weekend car. Get a commute car first.
Yeah, a lot of people on the Interwebs said the same thing.

I can see your predicament from two sides. The love of the road, driving, desire to be free and fulfill a dream.
Being what the world calls "older and wiser" due to my age- you may stand back one day and regret not doing what you can do now.
The other side of the coin-- future. How secure is your job? Do you have what you need for emergencies? Retirement- oh that comes too quick. All that plus initial cost , repairs, insurance rates. Oh yes, weather. What will that do to the car?
How much of your insurance money will cover the cost of a Porsche? What do you need to add to it? Will a loan put a strain on future plans. I guess that all adds up to the practical side of life.
There is also that nagging- go for it, life is too short .
Weigh all your options. Sending guidance. Think with reality, not the desire.

Yes, all this is in a battle in my brain right now! I have trouble not thinking with the desire...
