In the Suggestion Box Forum, I posted a suggestion for an "Other Books" category to accompany the "Other Movies" and "Other TV" forums. When it is created, we can start a thread of "Books My Teachers Read to the Class." In the meantime, here is a link to the thread about my last remaining unidentified title: http://forums.abebooks.com/discussions/AbeBookscom_BookSleuthreg/_/_/abeSleuthCom/54.1 On Page 7, post 125 of a 295-post thread, is the "Not-It List" of books already checked out by me and others. Those who like dog books will find some interesting vintage titles.

Okay, this is a completely different idea, so I will start the the thread for you in Bred Any Good Books area. Good thread topic, Cori.

And as other's have mentioned, the book I remember being read was Where the Red Fern Grows with the following cover.

I hated this book. It was sad, but I didn't break down crying. It just made me uncomfortable.

Wow. Surprised anyone has even heard of this one Sundrop. I've never come across it since then. Our teacher had a very southern accent so it added to it when she read it out loud. The stories were tall tales but they kept all of us completely enthralled.
Are you kidding?......I grew up right in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains where these stories originated. We even have our very own Teller of Jack Tales, Orville Hicks.....

He's sometimes a little hard to understand for folks who aren't from around here. Did your teacher have a similar accent?
She had more of a Southern Belle type accent. I lived in southern Arkansas in the Ouachita Mountains. It's close to where the mountainous area of the state drops off into the Delta part of the state, kind of had our own local dialect in that area.
