I hope the good people of Boston know that all of America is behind them, with them, in their grief, outrage, and recovery.
Freedom and security is always a balance. To the extent that we have a little less freedom and more security now, the terrorists and fearmongers have succeeded. But that's just one battle, and it's carried not just in the US but worldwide. And to the extent that such people seek to lessen our resolve, they fail utterly and cannot win this war.
Despite the excesses and shortcomings of governance, despite the disputes and squabbles among ourselves, we shall always persevere and ensure, as Abraham Lincoln so memorably said 150 years ago, that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
All the best to Boston on their day of remembrance and in continuing forward to their shared brighter future with us all.
