I read The Shining a long long time ago and loved it. Now, I'm a bit older and rereading it. Can I just say wow!! Seriously, now that I'm a writer I read things in a different manner. It's more like studying than anything else. The way Mr. King uses his words simply blows me away, ie, the sky pregnant ready to burst...is just one phrase...or the street lamps compared to a monster...awesome. As an author I love finding new ways to use my words. The tone is set so that it is building and the small instances where a character has a thought, these are things I do, and I have to say that I probably learned that from him. I can't thank him enough for being my unseen unknowing mentor. I doubt he has ever heard of me, but his writing has impacted my own without me even knowing it. I don't even know where I was going with this...just to say thank you I think...lol.

I'm not a writer, but I find re-visiting works of his now I'm older, they read so much better. I read The Stand many many years ago and dismissed it as bottom of my favourites list. Re-read again last year, and enjoyed it so much more.
There is a raw character to his voice from his older books. You can see how his voice changed and grew over the years. I love seeing that, no matter who the author is because you can see so much about the author. I don't know if that makes sense to you...lol, but even in my few short years as an author I see a difference in my own writing and sometimes I feel like wow I've grown and other times, I feel like saying please get rid of that what was I thinking...lol. Even a huge name like King shows growth and that is a beautiful thing to me.
