...awesome stuff everybody!....truly great stories and memories....I was never allowed to go as a kid......my Mom was a Twinner to Sonia Kaspbrak.....it still makes me wistful to hear others reminisce.....
This makes me sad. Did you take your kids Trick or Treating to make up for it?

I woulda dug that! Nothing like soda pop to wash down all that sugar! Woo-hoo!

What I always hated was the bible thumpers who thought they had to hand out anti-Halloween pamphlets in lieu of candy, in an effort to steer the kids away from that evil, devil holiday. Yeesh, tried making us all feel like bad kids for just having our spooky fun. The turds.
We have one of these families in our neighborhood. I took my daughter by there the first year, but skipped it after that.

I lived out the in the boonies growing up, so usually went to a friend or cousin's neighborhood to get our loot.

Where we are now, aren't many kids but we've had as many as 15 show up. I would take the kiddo around usually with another neighbor and her kids. A few blocks would yield a big bag full of candy and some worn out treaters.

There is a place at the beach that we went one year. The entire neighborhood goes all out. Folks park at a putt-putt and then walk the neighborhood. We filled up a pillowcase and walked until she was just done in, and I don't think we hit half of the neighborhood. She's getting too old for mom to go now and almost too old to go at all.:Oo:

Oh okay...........

It's an old injury from mountain biking. Back when I could scale the trails instead of looking at pictures of them....LOL Was on Gunstock and stepped off the bike right into a well disguised hole. Rabbit? Woodchuck? Sunny's hideout? I don't know. Suffered one of those high ankle sprains and was on crutches for weeks. Doctor said I'd have been better off breaking it. He was right. Every so often I'll twist it the wrong way and WHAMO!! gets all swelled up and I hobble around for a week or so. This time I stepped off a curb wrong last Friday. Have one of those air casts and boy that is my best friend today!! Thought it might be better by today to tell you the truth though.......
I have one of those ankle injuries that plague you for life stories, also. I was about 25 and playing on the company basketball team. Went up for a rebound came down and twisted my ankle tearing just about ever ligament on one side of my foot. Turned the ankle and tour ligaments on the other side. Drove myself home (about a half hour drive) in terrible pain. Almost passed out a couple of times. Went to the hospital across the street from my house. Doctor also said I would have been better if I’d have broken it. I also had nerve damage that affected the left side of my foot. They wanted to do surgery to reattach the ligaments on both sides of the ankle, and the foot would be in a cast and I’d have to be on crutches for over six weeks. I refused. The doctor said I’ll have to have it sometime because every time I turned my ankle I would be hitting the ground. He also said I needed to wear support hose the rest of my life. He was right about hitting the ground. I can’t tell you have many times I’ve fallen into lakes while fishing after turning my ankle on shoreline rocks. The other year while coaching girls softball I stepped on a softball with that ankle and fractured it. Three weeks ago twisted it again and the pain is almost gone now. I should have gotten the operation, but now it’s just something I’ve learned to live with. Just wish I wasn’t so terrible at basketball back then which would have made the lifelong injury somewhat bearable. Young and foolish was my middle name. :)

For the last couple of years, my daughter and her friends dress up, and go downtown for the annual "Boo!" The little ones trick or treat door to door at the local shops, and Cara and her friends just walk around and admire their costumes, take selfies, raid her dad's store for candy, and then eat dinner at one of the restaurants.

I can make you a poultice for that......it'll never bother you again.
Btw.....I don't think it was my hideout......unless you happened to be up at the viaduct, then maybe :biggrin-new:

The dry corn stalks across the road rustle in the continuous breeze sounding like thin dry bones brushing together. Coyotes in the hay-field next to the home yip and howl as the big moon lifts above the horizon. Bats flit about making their high-pitched squeaking noises while hoot owls make their lonesome hooting call in the woods on the other side of the home. This is the same woods next to the home where black angus cattle rustle in the dried leaves and occasionally bellow out. Other than the porch light reaching just beyond the edge of the porch, and the soft glow of a lamp in the front picture window, no other lights can be seen.

It is because of this that I do not ever purchase Halloween candy. But....if I did, it would be a mix of snickers bars and those little bags of hard candy that look like bones so the kids could attempt to create a full skeleton.

That sounds fun! I'll have to check and see if something like that is available around here.

Sucks doesn't it? Although it is nice to be able to tell when it's going to rain. Come to think of it, my ankle didn't bother me much all summer.

Wonder how muskrat's ankle is doing......?
