Which one?More infamous than famous, but back in ’74 a former member of the Manson family, one of Charlie’s girls, briefly had the hots for me when she was traveling with a motorcycle gang. A most unnerving experience.
...they have better beards....but bro?....I am truly enviouZZ.....Met all the guys from ZZ Top one warm summer morning in my old home town. We were sitting on the curb checking out our baseball cards we'd all just bought at the gas station their bus pulled into. They were heading to Louisiana for a show. All three of them got off the bus to stretch their legs, came over to us, talked to us for a while. All three of them very cool. This would have been around 1983 or 1984 I think? I posted the story somewhere on the SKMB several months ago but can't remember exactly where. Also had the honor of meeting Mr. King in 2011 in Dallas, TX. Mr. King was amazing in all regards.
...soooooo, you're a political stalker then?....Politics: Bill and Hillary Clinton (twice for him, three for her), Al Gore, W, John McCain, ............many many more.
...does he look anything like Rod Stewart?....I saw Rod Steward shopping in West Edmonton Mall.
Lol. Yep...does he look anything like Rod Stewart?....
Yes sir, I can't remember where I posted the story a few months back. I was the only one who realized who they were right off the bat. My dad is a big ZZ Top fan so I had been listening to them for a few years on 8-track....yeah, you're old like me, you'll know what those are...lol, Anyway. I was about eleven years old, or thereabouts, and it was a very warm summer morning. Back then we were all latch key kids during the summer. I lived in a very small town in southern Arkansas called Glenwood. At that time it was about 500 people total population. We had a gas station called "John Burke's"...you can probably guess who the proprietor of the store was from the store's name. We were always using our allowance to buy baseball cards back and then along with any other money we could scratch together. So, there we were sitting in the parking lot, the three of us, on the curb with our bikes laying beside us. We'd all bought a few packs of baseball cards and were anxiously going thru them seeing if any of the cards were worth a damn. I myself was looking for a Dale Murphy card to add to my 1983 Atlanta Braves collection. This event happened in 1984 but I was trying to get all the Braves team players from the 1983 season. We all stopped and watched as this really big tour bus pulled up to the gas pumps and a driver in slacks and a business shirt got out and started to refuel the bus. The bus didn't have markings on it or anything but did have a Texas license plate. As we continued to watch the bus, three gentleman got off the bus and started walking around, they looked like they were stretching their legs. I recognized them and, never one not to let everyone know what I'm thinking, I said out loud to my friends "HOLY $H!T, THOSE ARE THE GUYS FROM ZZ TOP!" I was already quite adept at cursing at 11 years old, my old man being the world heavyweight champ at cursing. One of my friends said "Who?" I said "ZZ Top, dumbass, the band, ZZ Top." They strolled over to us and Dusty Hill just started talking to us, asked us how we were. I asked him if they were going to a show, he said they were headed to Shreveport, LA. Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard came over and talked to us for a few minutes. All three guys were very cool and very cordial. We were all thrilled and immediately ran off to tell anyone who would listen about our ZZ Top encounter....they have better beards....but bro?....I am truly enviouZZ.....
Thanks for that story. I especially enjoyed the glimpse into your childhood. Reminds me of IT and the young characters portrayed there.Yes sir, I can't remember where I posted the story a few months back. I was the only one who realized who they were right off the bat. ....love the story....ya just never know...Neil McCoy came through here a few years back on his way to Jamboree in the Hills, stopped by Denny's for a bite-and just pulled up a chair with some locals and hung out for awhile...I have found that the "famous" people I have met are good common folks, and like to be treated that way...not all mind you-there are a share of asswhacks that think they're owed adoration...but most don't behave like that...Yes sir, I can't remember where I posted the story a few months back. HIs real name is Johnny Smith......soooooo, you're a political stalker then?....
It was a long time ago and they were camped near us for only about a week. I believe her name was Cat or something like that. She liked to use the shower in our RV, and modesty didn't seem to be in her vocabulary. She was weird and made me feel uncomfortable as hell. And my friends were merciless about the situation.Which one?
