All I can say is that the comics so far have covered from the time when Roland was a teenager up to DT2. So the comics at times have some other aspects not covered in the books, but you cannot say that the comics tell a different story.

...I look at the comics as an extension and fleshing out if you will, of the DT "skeleton"...what Robin and the rest have done-with King's blessing-is expound on aspects that he only mentioned obliquely...I have the whole collection to date and have enjoyed them all...but just like the Inkslinger's own work-the level of enjoyment varies...

I just have a simple question: I've just got into the series and only 2/3rds finished DT 3. So after I am finished the novels, after DT7- is there something different in the comics compared to the books? Thanks
Not different so much as some fleshing out and creation of some side stories.

Tell ya, the comics are the comics, the books are the books. I don't accept them as canon any more than I would a movie adaption. See, I'm holding out for more Roland tales from King--there's plenty of fertile ground for such, in between the fall of Gilead and the big Quest. The comics covered this area you say? Cry yer pardon, Sai, but...meh. Like I say, those are comics. I don't consider them official DT stories any more than I considered Roy Thomas's Conan stories part of the Conan canon. And I love Roy Thomas Conan. Just two different animals.

Well, sure, but doggonit, you know as well as I, it ain't the King. And further more...those comics sucked. Just like all modern comics suck. Like picture books for lil kiddies. God forbid we put some words in there.

Betcha Roy Thomas would give us some good DT.

...he would have indeed...they weren't and haven't all been quality but Robin has done well...no Golden Age of comics certainly, but we dinosaurs live in a world that has moved on...into reality tv and boner pills...

Indeed. Heh heh heh.

Butcha gotta admit...you'd rather have the King do Roland than anybody else. Otherwise we get get Blade the Gunslingin Vampire Slayer. Oh joy.
