Cool.

They are having a race day somewhat close to me in NH in May. Wish I could get of work to go.

I was in a group that was going to Dallas for a larger gathering, and our group was going to have a pre-meeting outing. The leader of the group, coincidentally from Dallas, pulled me aside and asked me if the group would be okay if we paid $200 each for an afternoon at the track and an opportunity to pilot one of these NASCAR beasts, with a mechanic in the passenger seat. It was unstated, but I understood, that our leader was subsidizing this venture to some extent. The leader didn't say the level of the subsidy, and I was too well-mannered to ask.

I'm not a NASCAR guy. I'm not any kind of race guy. I couldn't tell you, other than names that vaguely filter through, who's famous for racing. But I like driving, and I like to go fast, and I don't remember exactly my response, but to summarize, it was, "Oh, hell yes."

So it was offered up, and I jumped on it, and I had some of the most fun you can have outside the bedroom. I had on the helmet, gloves, fire suit, the whole thing. The engines were loud and incredibly powerful, the mechanic yelled at me (over the engine noise) to stop worrying about shifting and just let the car's power carry it through, and I did as he said.

Texas Motor Speedway. It was glorious.

That's awesome!

I did the Ferrari racing as part of my 40th birthday gift to myself. We got the helmets and all that jazz as well. You got an instructor in the car and the cars were paddle shift. I got a good feel for the car after the third lap. The last two laps were a blast but were over way too quick :( Man, that Ferrari moves.

I could have forked over more dough for additional time but I had already reached my budget as a result of doing Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp the day before.

I'm not a big NASCAR fan either. I prefer drag racing. Did some ill advised street racing back in my younger and dumber days.

Growing up I had an Uncle who raced an alcohol injected dragster. My aunt named it "short circuit" as it had an electrical fire during their first race ;;D He also raced a 1967 Camaro RS/SS convertible. That was a cool car.

My Dad was a car guy as well. He beat the crap out of everything he drove as he always was driving like he was in high speed pursuit! You can take the cop out of the police car but can't take police driving techniques out of the cop I guess :) I picked up some aggressive driving habits (among other things) from my old man.

My uncles on my Mom's side all had muscle cars at some point or other and my cousins and I followed in that vein. There were always some kind of automotive hijinks going on growing up!

Not Fair!! I've never had a cool car. I've never driven a cool car. Maybe I should go test drive something off a lot somewhere just so I can say I drove something cool...?
I did that so I could drive a Porsche 911 Carrera:

The closest I could get is the RX-8 I drive now: (I love it so much...♥)

I did drive a "kit car" in my youth that my brother's friend put together--a Laser--so fun.
