I read somewhere that Tom Savini was originally supposed to direct Pet Sematary with Bruce cast as Dr. Creed. Supposedly it fell apart because Savini had a conflict with directing the NOTLD remake and Bruce was filming Army of Darkness. Maybe just rumor but that would have been way better than the Mary Lambert film with what's his name as Dr Creed.
...I will add that one to my "must view" list...and man that would have been great-if those two had been around for the Sematary project...

An American Werewolf In London is getting a screening on 10/27.
The main attractions for the Halloween marathon are the original Frankenstein and The Lost Boys. There will also be 4 or 5 other movies playing that night. Not sure if I can commit to that show but we'll see!

The original Frankenstein is a family favorite, but not as a horror movie. From the time the kids were little, they've all felt sorry for the Monster--lol. I need a new copy; our tape died last year & I couldn't find the DVD around here.
One of my fondest memories is when I got a group of friends together and we watched a double feature of Highlander and John Carpenter's The Thing. Two great slices of eighties goodness right there. Not on a big screen though.
That is a semi-guilty pleasure of mine, and "semi" from the fact that it's too gruesome for Grandma to like (she's a kind, gentle soul) and my other friends that I've brought to a viewing just don't "get" it.
To me, it's so dry in parts, so self-satirizing in parts, it just sends me into cinematic observational joy. It's not perfect. The ending sequence is overbaked about 20 degrees. But it's just so full of humor and intentional absurdity and nuance that I just can't help but love it.
Agree with you on the ending. The film could do without the requisite John Landis 1,000 car pile-up.
I like the film but have always liked The Howling better. Mainly because I think the werewolf effects from The Howling are cooler.
