A little over 100 pages into Summer of Night and loving it!!
I also have Carrion Comfort, Song of Kali, The Terror, and A Winter Haunting waiting for me.I'll read a Winter Haunting after I finish SON, then probably read Song of Kali soon after.

I just started The Fifth Heart last night. Already hooked.

*Annie Wilkes voice* Duane McBride cannot be dead. He was my favorite character in the damn book and Dan Simmons MURDERED HIM!!!
I think I warned you that Simmons pulls off a 'Hitchcock' in this book. I felt the same as you, too!
I finished The Fifth Heart recently and was not really impressed. It's me, though. I'm not a Sherlock Holmes fan and to get a lot of the book you had to really appreciate the Holmes stories.

It's a different animal altogether, Kurben. Reading Song Of Kali made me want to never, ever visit Calcutta. He describes the heat, the humidity, the stink, the overcrowding, the horror of daily life all very realistically. It's Simmons first novel and as far as I'm concerned he hit it out of the park (and gave us a glimpse of the great writing that was forthcoming). Some members didn't like it, but I think it's outstanding.
I agree with kingricefan. I read it when it first came out and was mightily impressed. Although it was his first, it is, in my opinion, one of his best.

I got Drood and Song of Kali for good prices. Drood seems very interesting. Just read the first pages but i'll hold off for a while. Findes Keepers comes on tuesday.....
I loved Drood! I love the atmosphere Simmons created.
Anyone read his Sherlock piece, the followup to Drood?
I've read it. I'm not a big Holmes fan, so I didn't care that much for it. You really have to have read the Holmes stories before reading this one. It's been just too long for me to remember much about Doyles' works.
