Hello everyone. I hope you got the chance to read the story.

It seems I've read this before somewhere. I didn't think I ever had, but it became more and more familiar as I moved along.

I liked the story. Quick but to the point. I don't really know what to say about it other than Neil has a way of writing that endears me to him. I would have loved to have heard Neil Himself read this. If someone runs across a vid, please post it. I looked but found only others reading it, but not him.

Wicked little ironic ending it had.

I know it's a totally different type of story, different rhythm and timing, but the ending sort of reminded me of those stories where the babysitter is on the phone downstairs and the cop calls and says, "get out, the killer is in the house!"

In this case, the cop was the mother, and instead of being urgent about it, she almost nonchalantly tells the guy, "oh. by the way. You ate your kid."

As said above, a Dickensian story of loss and then boom! in your face! you ate your kid.

I don't know why I get that babysitter story feel from this. Because there doesn't seem to be any great alarm from the mother. More along the lines of, oh well, that's what happens out at sea.

which just a funny personal story.

Jackie on Roseanne has a baby. Fred and her are fighting over whether the baby should sleep with them. Jackie storms out and Fred hears her tell the baby over the baby monitor, "There, there. Someday your real father will return from the sea."

That became a personal joke in our house between me and my boys. At appropriate times, I would look at them and say, "There there. Someday, your real father will return from the sea."

And then we would laugh.

Any volunteer for next weeks story? Just post a free link to a short story and we'll be all set.
I'll step in again.

I know for sure I haven't read this one, but have this author's books in my TBR pile.
