...ummmmm, your "real friends"....chopped liver on sale!!!!-Aisle 9!!!!!.....
Eeer... I guess I chose a wrong "term", huh?

You're right, that's not very logical ;-D
You know, they say women have strange logic sometimes... I guess that was just one example of it;-D

You know, to be honest, Lina sounds like a perfectly normal Russian girls name, I just figured it was your real first name. Yulia is a lovely name. It sounds classy and exotic.
Thank you:grinning:

Yes, I've seen pix of it before, though it doesn't resemble the high school guy or myself. Nevertheless, it is kinda cute.

Mine is not logical at all, when I was registering here... when was it? I guess it's been 4 or 5 years ago... I thought of playing with my name somehow, but the nicknames I tries were already occupied (my real name is Yulia what is maybe a little strange for the English language, all my friend on the Internet and even some of my real friends call me Julie, this one I took after watching I Know What You Did Last Summer, I just loved the character of Jennifer Love Hewitt in the movie=D).
Anyway, then I was thinking of taking the nickname Melinda (in honor of my favorite Melinda Gordon from Ghost Whisperer), I have this nickname on some other sites, but I guess here it also was occupied. And then I thought of my favorite singer whose nickname is Linda and decided to just leave one letter to make it more interesting:0: Not so clever, huh ;-D

Hey Lina! We are real (honest!) - there are even real pictures of us on here somewhere... But I get what you mean - until you meet someone in the flesh, or in person, you do not really think of them as "real".
p.s. I am not a huge fan of Facebook but I did join for the sake of my son in Edmonton, and almost every one of the people who are my "friends" on there I have actually met in real life. (Call me old fashioned I guess!)

Well, I just meant people whom I know not from the Internet... I guess it was a really wrong word, I am sorry! :a11:Sure, it's a bit different - people we meet in person and those we meet here, but that's not making anyone bad friends. It's great we can meet people all over the world and make friends with them here... And a good friend is a good friend, doesn't matter where we meet...

I agree - so when are you inviting us over for some traditional Russian delicacies? :lol2::big_grin::biglove:

Bumping this thread up. We've added a lot of new members since this thread ended three years ago, and I was interested in how usernames were chosen and what they mean.

Most longtime members have explained their usernames here, so no need to repeat.

I've been divorced for two years now, and since my username is a nickname from my ex, I've thought about changing it, but can't come up with anything I like. Plus, you all know me as danie. So I guess I'll keep it.

So, newer members, if you don't mind to share your username origin?

well, i put this in some random thread once when someone asked, but since there's a place for it, i'll put it here too. way back when (probably close to 20 years ago), i was interested in learning spanish. i never learned much more than the pronunciation rules, although i can puzzle out things from reading sometimes. so i needed a nickname for some place on the internet, and i'm terrible at coming up with them, so i dipped into my spanish dictionary, and came up with "recitador", which my dictionary claimed meant "reader" . . .although since then i've discovered that might not be entirely accurate and it's more like narrator or reciter, but those still sort of fit in a way i guess. at any rate, it's a user name that is pretty much never taken, so i've just used it for about everything. i could probably do slightly better at nicknames these days, but the devil you know, etc.
