So I started to think about the script, for the Dark Tower, and apply my experience with Hollywood and her films. I combined that with the various leaks we have been getting and a film is starting to take form in my mind following the predictable pattern. Granted my predictions so far (which I will add to as we get more leaks and I think of more) are not true to the book, but would still count as spoilers wherein they are in the ballpark. Avoid the section called spoilers if you haven't read the book, or if you think I might be on the mark about the film.

Part-1: Film Opening
The film does at least open on the desert. That much alone they were willing to keep in the film. The first book of the series has one of the best lines ever written, and even Hollywood isn't so depraved as to remove it. The camera flows over the harsh desert, the apotheosis of all deserts as the voice of a boy starts up in narration. The narrating boy delivers that famous line about the man in black fleeing across the desert, and the gunslinger follows. They take this time to follow up with a bit of prologue still given by the narrating boy's voice and give you the typical Hollywood flashes to match what you are told.

Part-2: Then you seen the narrator, switching back to our world. The boy has visions of this apocalyptic world. *This is how they tie it together. The next section of the film introduces the boy (hopefully he will still be called Jake) and we learn about his hard home life, how his father died in the WTC attack, and his visions and problems. He sees things, and perhaps he is going crazy. Only he isn't going crazy. He is seeing visions of what is to come for this strange other world and his (our own). Things are getting rough for him and he may be confined to an institution.

Part-3: Enter the black hats. In this case the Low Men/Women come for the boy. They know the truth about him. They have come to kidnap him for his power. The term Breaker might even be introduced. These alien invaders, chief among them the beautiful, Australian supermodel with the traits of a snake mean to take the boy back to their world. Conveniently enough, they gain passage through certain spot in the desert, i.e. the Way station. The boy and the Gunslinger are thus, on a collision course. This ties the Man in Black to the kidnappers. He was making for the Way station too.

Part-4: The meeting. The boy is taken to Midworld and there at the Way Station the Gunslinger nearly catches the Man in Black. There is some sort of action packed gunfight. The Man in Black and the Australian Supermodel escape, but many of the other Low Men/Women are killed. The Gunslinger now learns of Jake, his visions, and pursues the Man in Black with the boy in tow.

This is as far as I've gotten working out how I think Hollyweird is likely to rewrite. :D

Hollywood will completely disregard the opening sentence of the DT series. They’ll miscast the major rolls and give too much attention to minor ones. Subplots won’t matter. They’ll cram too much material into the first movie (The Gunslinger) because people won’t be interested in a western. They know better than King and will substitute their own style over his tone for the epic tale. And the violence will be muted and the sexual aspects enhanced. But I guess it could be worse... They could deny him a cameo role. :)

I agree that it is a gamble for a Dark Tower CR to look forward to a Dark Tower movie, because the odds that it will include every detail that particular CR likes are beyond belief. Who knows, though, it might just be a great movie?

I read that last line as They could deny him a canoe. And it actually made sense.
