She did a horrible job. Her screams and stupidity were subpar. She could've been so much stupider. Bad actress.I agree. She was cast to scream and be stupid, and she played that role brilliantly.

Where? who? I don't hate Shelley. SHelley and I just have a small disagreement on her portrayal of Wendy.^^Shelley Hater^^
Sounds like Kubrick essentially stressed her out on purpose as he wanted her to cry a lot. What a pr*ck, eh?Where? who? I don't hate Shelley. SHelley and I just have a small disagreement on her portrayal of Wendy.
Haters..............
Shelley rules!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie works as horror but as an adaption it stinks. I think Jack Nicholson is miscast. It should have been someone who does not look and act crazy all the time. The whole point of it is that he slowly goes crazy. Nicholson is crazy in the first scene. No surprise there. There the whole creepy feeling falls on its face. Kubrick wanted to do a Horrorflick and in the process he slaughtered a real good book. If he wanted to do Horror he could have but he wasnt filming the shining. It should have been named Horror Hotel instead and he could have left Shining to somebody who cared about the book.

Yeah, Hitch had a kind of infatuation thing with his blond leading actresses. Grace Kelly, Kim Novak, Eve-Marie Saint, Tippi Hedren, Doris Day. Didn't treat them well. But his was a sexual infatuation and the treatment also a kind of punishment for not being interested (according to Hedren) in him (i don't know if he ever was succesful) while i doubt very much that Kubrick was interested in Shelley Duvall. For him it was all about making her suffer off stage so she looked as she was suffering on stage. Cruel method. Not a sign of trust your actors there......Hitchcock was known to do stuff like that too.
