Hi - thought I would start a new thread re taking care of plants.

You can post anything you like here, whether it's outdoor gardening or indoor.

I'll start - tonight when watering my Roma tomatoes I noticed the bottoms of the tiny tomatoes (only about an inch or so long) had turned all brown. I picked off five of them and the rest look fine.

I wonder what causes this?

Just for something to do, I gave them a boost with some Miracle Grow in the water. It has been extremely hot and sunny here and one day the plant looked almost withered, so that might be the reason.

Ha! I found a picture - turns out it is "blossom rot" - yuck

Mine actually did not look rotten like in this picture - they just looked brown, but not squishy

There is a Polish family who comes to do our yard once or twice a month because it's so BIG. We don't have a flower garden or a vegetable garden. We just have trees and bushes. We don't have indoor plants. We just have fake flowers on our coffee tables because of people's allergies.

I was thinking about this one - is there another thread somewhere else? I thought maybe Doc Creed had posted photos from his yard, now that I think about it. If so, could the threads be merged?

I am happy to report that the tomato plants are looking much better now. Yesterday and today I gave them a good soaking with water and also put some Miracle Gro into the water on one occasion.

The neighbor across the laneway has agreed to come over and take care of the plants on the deck so they won't die while we are gone.

I even got a Swamp Milkweed from a place called The Living Prairie Museum. Had to drive 17 km across town to pick it up. It will attract Monarch butterflies eventually, once I propagate a few more from the seeds.

I couldn't even find the thread in the first place :rugby:

Post # 5 up above has some links

I just clicked on them - they are both from 2016 so maybe that was the old Board?
:umm:
I was able to get to the link for the thread about flowers but it is limited to that topic and this seems to be more about gardening in general so not a good fit. I'm fine with keeping this one as is for now.
