A few of you have reached out to me upon hearing news of the mass killings in New Zealand last Friday, thanks so much to you all... it is so appreciated because I guess I feel a little bit like the elephant in the room right now. I suppose really it is very hard to talk about this especially as now we do not have an area for Hot Topics and once you wade through the pain and the tears and the shock and all of the hurt, what is left is purely.... hot topics.
So, we cannot go into this and that is a relief for me right now, because it's been an exhausting grief since last Friday and I'm just tired. And I did not know a single individual on a personal level. So imagine how it is for the people that do? My son has a coworker that has lost two family members. Two. I cannot even begin to imagine their pain.
Simple things have helped ease some of the emotions... taking gifts to our local Mosque, assisting financially and attending vigils... and the teeny act of lifting my head up and really seeing the people in our community and taking off my 'SSDD blinders'. These things have made me feel like we're a society than can change.
The alleged killer, was not a Kiwi... but as I look around and read some of the social media posts... I see sadly that he quite easily could have been.
I am skirting the boundaries of hot-topic territory here and as a moderator I feel very uncomfortable getting this close, so I'll just please ask that people here send their good thoughts and love to the families, friends and colleagues affected by this horrendous act... and I plead with you all to just love your fellow man, woman and child. We are one.
