Hi GNTLGNT, I recently saw a picture of a King Con gathering and you were very easy to pick out. A giant of a man indeed (which includes the giant heart as well from what I've seen so far). All the best, mal.

...thank you for such kind words my friend!...yep, there's no hiding for me....I am the proverbial sore thumb....Hi GNTLGNT, I recently saw a picture of a King Con gathering and you were very easy to pick out. Yep, this was my first, too. It was January 18th, 1993...Alabama and it was snowing hard (wait, why do I sound like Sofia from the Golden Girls?) and I was 16. My father took me to the grocery store to get a Stephen King book. I found a book carousel of random paperbacks and gleefully grabbed the first SK I saw. It was this copy of The Shining. I got home and read for days, the snow falling outside my window.

Ha! That's hilarious.I think it must have been around 1980 for me. My family was overseas, and I picked it up at a paperback book exchange. I remember being absolutely terrified--I had to read the chapter 'Inside 217'
in the living room while sitting right between my parents --lol.
My vote for the worst goes to Insomnia. The hardcover Carrie is THE WORST cover ever for a SK book, in my opinion.

I was going to vote for The Dark Half. One of my top ten favorite SK novels but not a fan of the cover. Insomnia's problem is it doesn't make you want to pick it up and read it...even though King's name is on it.My vote for the worst goes to Insomnia.
...all kidding aside, I DID respond to this motor vehicle accident on our way to the prison for the tour...it happened right in front of us, and thankfully neither driver was seriously injured-just shaken up....View attachment 14151 ....I told him to stop, but he just wouldn't listen...so I put my hip into it....
That's the one I have. Shiny silver tone cover. Love it.
Same. I didn't notice that on the cover - this is a pic from Google I've lost my original copy years ago. I don't have any King PBs anymore, aside from a copy of the original The Stand, for sentimental reasons. I killed at least six copies of that PB before I finally got a HBThat's the one I have. Edit: hmmmm mine doesn't say "from the author of It" though since I bought it upon original publication, which was a number of years before Itwas published.
I wanted to throw holy water on this book. Gives me the heeby jeebies. Lol.That was my first too. Loved just looking at the cover.
This and along with my first 'Salem's Lot
I was happy.
I actually threw mine in the garbage while reading it because my mother got sick! I was a very impressionable catholic school kid at the time. Once she got better though, I rebought the book a week or so later and still have it. I LOVE that cover!I wanted to throw holy water on this book. Gives me the heeby jeebies. Lol.
I bought a rare paperback Carrie and accidentally donated to the free bin at our bookstore. It was worth about a hundered bucks. Went back to find it but someone had grabbed it, evidently.I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for this.
