Happy Easter! Growing up, first thing was check for an Easter basket full of goodies. Mom and I would go to a sunrise church service, then we'd all go to a big lunch and Easter egg hunt at my grandparents. Lots of kids running around looking for eggs and we always managed to lose at least one that my Papaw would find about a month later!o_O;-D

Has anyone ever been to an Adult Easer egg hunt? I went to one last year. They had fabulous prizes in the eggs like grill and vacation certificates. Hunting the eggs was fun too!
We always celebrate Easter at my place. Doing it again this year. One year, after the kids did their Easter egg hunt, I hid a bunch of those little alcohol bottles like the airlines use, for the adults to go on a hunt. The aftermath of such got a little out of hand. I’ll never do that again. Live and learn. :)

I've told this story before, but I would like to encourage you adults to do this for someone in your life.

I asked my mom one time if she ever had an Easter basket. She told me that they were so poor, she never did. Well, I wasn't going to have that!

So, I went to the store and bought an Easter basket with the green grass and plastic eggs and I stuffed adult things into the basket too like some perfume, a book, and other little things like this. Then I got the cellophane and tied it up with a big huge bow.

While she was at work, I went and hid it at her house. And then I left notes for her all over where she would have to go from one note to the next to find her basket. I called her and told her she had to follow the notes. I had the garage door note (the first one she saw) direct her to open the oven. In the oven was a note that directed her to lift up the toilet seat in the main bathroom. That note told her to look under the pillow on the couch. That note sent her on and so forth until the final reveal of her big huge Easter basket.

I went over later that night and found her in bed with her Easter basket and all her surprises surrounding her. She looked like a big kid.

It was adorable and one of the best memories of something special I did for her. I was determined that before she died, she would have an Easter basket and she would hunt for it!

Check with your older members of the family and see if they have ever gotten one of these and do it for them!

You need to put tissue box warnings.... That was so precious!

What was fun about it, I did very traditional little kid things with the basket, and then added the grown up mom stuff too. It was a beautiful basket and stuffed to the brim with goofy things and nice things.

i can still see her face. She looked like a little girl with all her treasures, mouth full of chocolate.

I did something similar for my mother. She grew up dirt poor in Ireland. She often said the story Angela’s Ashes could have been written about her family. She once told me how as a little girl she always dreamed of getting one of those dolls with a porcelain face and frilly dress for Christmas. But all she ever got for Christmas was an orange. So one Christmas I got her one of those dolls. When she opened it she asked why she got it as a present. I told her because of the story she always told us kids about her wish as a kid. She said it was stupid for me to spend my money on it now because she wasn’t a kid anymore.

My entire life can be summed up in one sentence: Well, that didn’t go as planned. :)

I think that was a very sweet thing to do. And she is probably a practical woman because of her upbringing, so that's why she said what she said. But, I bet deep down in her heart, she loved it.
