I hope this is alright to post here, but is anyone reading this a fan of Peter Jackson's above film? I much prefer it to the Lord of The Rings series, as I prefer all Jackson's earlier, imaginative, thoughtful and compelling works. HC was based on a true murder case in 1950's Christchurch, New Zealand, and it is in my opinion, a brilliant rendition. I wish that Jackson would adapt a King work to the screen!!

Thanks FlakeNoir, thought this might have been the wrong place. By the way, Happy New Year!! Hope you had a lovely break and lots of chocolate!!
Thanks Tanya, happy New Year to you also... I did receive some After Dinner Mints, which was lovely--they went really well with my sparkly blue nail polish. (7-year-old boy :biggrin2: )

I hope things are going well for you, how is the job hunting?

(I love this movie btw, but it has been years since I last saw it.)

Hi FlakeNoir. Blue nail polish - nice!! The job-hunting is totally demoralising. I keep getting knocked back, told I just don't have quite the experience needed, etc ( I have lots!!), I am thinking of further study for this year, such as early childhood teaching. I haven't found job hunting this hard in years!! Why is everyone flocking to Auckland!! All the best to you for 2016!. Try watching HC again, it's worth it - so much in it, the only real harrowing scene is the death scene. A fantasy thriller mostly. Love the way Jackson recaptured 1950's Christchurch as well, and the acting from the two leads - amazing!!

Blue polish... only on my toes now, managed to 'wear' it off my fingernails.
The job market is sucking all over at present, I'm finding the same sort of deal--I really need to wait until Feb to begin work though when school starts back, because of childcare.

I studied early childhood teaching when I left high school, I would definitely have to take further courses now in order to comply with the criteria today. Let me know how you get on...

I love the early movies from Peter and will definitely track down HC this year.

The job market is so depressing. Potential employers are putting candidates through relentless stupid hoops, totally annoys me. I have fifteen years solid experience in customer services, good refs, and they still want more. When I left school in the 80's you would often get offered the job at the interview!! It's all gotten silly, out of hand and ridiculous. And often the salary offered is often quite low as well. They want robots!!

So, yes, to further study. I like kids a lot and think I would do well as an early childhood teacher. Have to rethink the future, - quite scary isn't it! I love Peter's early films too, full of No eight wire and home-made imagination!! I dunno, I just find the LoTR triology a bit pre-packaged and a bit over done. Good on Jackson though, he put NZ on the film-making map!! Best to you agian, FlakeNoir. I love blue nail polish, by the way! Yes I know, I should leave Auckland...sometimes I love it, sometimes I loathe it! Chaotic, crazy place!!

Wasn't Heavenly Creatures the first starring role for Kate Winslet? I did see this film, it was disturbing to me in numerous ways. Beautifully acted and directed but still disturbing.
Yes, it was the first starring role for both Kate Winslet and Melanie Lysnkey. It is a disturbing film, especially as it's based on true events. The murder scene is dreadful to watch, even if the camera often does cut away. Beautiful music and atmosphere overall. The mother seems so nice, great actress too.

In my opinion it is absolutely his best movie. Better than the LOTR. One of the girls became a wellknown detective novelist as a grownup.....The two girls are excellent, A young Kate Winslet (before Titanic) is very good but the best is the NZ girl,. Dont remember her name but she is great.

The other actress is Melanie Lynskey, who was in Rose Red, apparently. Yes, it is far better than LOTR isn't it, which I find to be a bit of a bore really. Jackson started his career in his backyard with his parents old film camera, setting up his own hilarious horror scenes, also around Wellington, NZ, his mates being the actors. Good on him!!! He made a mocumentry called Forgotten Silver, which alot of Kiwis thought was real, that is excellent too. Wish he would get back to basics!!

Yes I just love Heavenly Creatures, and there is a great book as well, called So Brilliantly Clever, by a Kiwi lawyer, pics and all, it delves into the murder and what led the girls to do it. An excellent read.

"locked in her room, endlessly writing." A line from the film that always cracks me up!!

It's a bizarre movie made truly fascinating being a true story.

It is bizarre, Jackson did really play up the fantasy elements. I would love to see it remade, say with a more realistic view, by someone like Jane Campion. Much as I love it, I would just love to see a more realistic take as well!! At one time there were three or four different scripts and directors vying to get it made, but Jackson got the backing and funding due to all his previous successes.
