The Character holly is an interesting Character. Intelligent(brilliant with the net), smokes(ah well) and has a lack of Confidence in herself. she feels she needs tablets due to her overbearing mother who treats her with a lack of respect. She is socially maladjusted prefers surfing the net to have 'real life' conversations. When she is using computers/net she is 100$ confident, yet ask her something regarding normal things, she turns like a mouse. She has low self esteem no Confidence and has probably never been or kissed a man. she probably suffers from psychosis to neurosis.

Enough of Siggy Freud thank you
:)

If she was a real life Character I would like to psyhoanlyse her.

With hope she'll back in more mischief very soon getting everyone out of trouble with her brilliance and that's why you have to love her, that's what Mr. King want you to do .

Holly was one of my favorite characters from that book. I loved how she turned things around at the end and found her courage and inner strength that she probably never knew she had.

Weird, maybe, but for most of that part of the book I had a mental image of Amanda Plummer as Holly (ca. Pulp Fiction).
At the very end, the mental image shifted and I thought 'He's describing Donna Tartt!' :D
He very probably wasn't, but...ya know.

Oh hell yes! No one could play that part better. If you HAD to go with someone a very little bit younger, you could use Lili Taylor, but this is Ms. Plummer's part.

Eh? Nah. It's only a name, I know, but I can't see a connection really. Our Holly's great. Book Holly was "two stops short of Dagenham". (Barking.) :D
I am not saying Holly is nuts! (I just think it's a nice coincidence) ;-D:m_bigwink: (that he used the name of someone here); however her real name is different from her screen name.

I think sK wrote Holly to be a nice surprise...
and a way to kind of take the place of her sister, who's loss was a not-nice surprise.
All readers long to see such a character break free from psychological/emotional bonds.

Me too. I knew half of her problem was her overprotective mother. So good for both her and her mother when she came into her own.
Point well taken that the end of an unhealthy relationship is good for everyone associated with it, that there are many victims needing to be set free.

She was extremely brave. she finally started life on her own
A quality no one, including herself, would ever see without her being called upon to use it.

That's right - she was not completely crazy or anything like that, just suppressed and overprotected!
Suppression and/or other interferences lasting long enough will produce mental illness. Holly was mentally ill, but her nature to fight, to survive, overcame it, giving her at least enough freedom to stand a chance in life.

Hey - I know the depiction of Holly is not all that flattering in the book but when I read it I could not help but think - hmmmm - Holly - I wonder if he picked up that name here on the SKMB?

Oh hey 'dere! Every time I see this post I get all excited that someone's starting a public conversation with me, but no. Your Holly is nuts, baby. Even if Holly's only my screen name. Oddly enough, the Ogre got himself a library card (clearly they don't know he's related to me or they'd have taken him away in handcuffs - I owe the library $35 in fines), and he brought home Mr. Mercedes. I'm wondering if my mental health is in good enough shape for me to start reading it. Will it scare me? I've only just come back to my senses, be honest. Can I take it?

Anyhow, if she's crazy, and then finds some strength - I love her.

Nah, not scary. Crime fiction, sad in a couple of parts. There's a flashback of child abuse that could be a trigger, if someone was so inclined--be aware if that's the case. Other than that, just...adventurous, I guess :)
