I gotta admit, he got me, I was fooled. I remember entertaining the idea of him as a suspect at one point but dismissing it entirely, I don't recall my exact reasoning. But I was enjoying the rest of the story so much that in-between talk of the murders I usually didn't think about them too much. But I did bring him back into the mix after the day at the park, because the book by that point was hinting heavily that somebody there that day was involved and there were only two.
I had my money on the manager, as I think Stephen was probably trying to steer us into doing, because I wasn't sure if he was being creepy or genuinely nice with his magic and grinning host routine. Plus suddenly going on and on about his carny past. In hindsight I guess it was some last-minute misdirection to throw people off before the twist but at the time I thought it was a slow reveal.
