Just over a year ago my 13-year old daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was perfectly healthy one day and then the next we are in the hospital getting the news. It was that quick. A terrible and shocking experience. She spent about three months in the hospital and there have been a lot of long days spent at the cancer clinic since. Thankfully she is doing well. It is a frightening experience but I have seen many children in that context that are coping with this affliction. I've seen them rolled them down the hallway to have a lung or kidney removed and then a couple days later they are up and about. So it can also be inspirational. I sort of felt ashamed for never realizing beforehand that so many people have had to suffer through these kinds of events. A sort of blissful ignorance. My only previous experience was to see the occasional TV commercial asking for money. It never really hit home that it is real. And the treatment of childhood Leukemia is a sort of medical miracle. Before the 1960s, any child that was diagnosed was almost certainly going to die. Today, the success rate is very high. With all the bad news in the world read this Smithsonian article about the how the dedication of some individuals made such a profound difference: Childhood Leukemia Was Practically Untreatable Until Dr. Don Pinkel and St. Jude Hospital Found a Cure | Innovation | Smithsonian
Oh this is terrifying, best wishes for your daughter too Richard.

Hi all
I've been home for nearly 2 weeks now and glad to say that I'm feeling a lot better. I'm eating better and have a lot more energy, still quite tired though. I've got Doctor's appointments coming up and a PET scan then will find out when my chemo will start.
Richard best wishes for you and your daughter.
Thankyou everyone for your kind words.

Hi all
So I ended up in hospital again on March 21 with severe pain in my stomach and vomiting. They said I had an obstruction in the bowel which should clear within 2 days. It didn't clear so on 27 March I had major surgery again. A few days later my bowels started working again. I didn't leave hospital until last Saturday7 April.
Unfortunately the pathology came back as some cancer in the bowel again and I will need more chemo once I recover from surgery.
I had booked to go away tomorrow 11 April to Adelaide and Queensland so had to cancel my holiday, luckily I have insurance so should get my money back.
I'm still not feeling that good but slowly getting better.
Thanks
