I am so proud of you (((Dana,))) it takes a sh1t-ton of courage to get out from underneath someone's thumb and I am so happy that you've taken this step. You are a positive and hard-working man and I think these qualities will see you into something new and in a place where you are respected and treated fairly.
Please keep us posted, you have all of my best wishes. xox
Thanks Flakes!! You are a true light in my life!!

So today after avoiding me for 2 1/2 hours the manager approached me and simply said 'I know nothing's going to change your mind but I am sorry that you are leaving.' No apology for calling me a liar. Right. I replied 'Thank you. It's time for me to go.' and left it at that. He deserves no more than that.

I'm referring more in terms of if I applied at say an insurance company to do a job that involved working on a computer, etc. It's not a strong suit for me. I know basics, but am not a whiz at creating folders, etc.

You'll be fine. I work in insurance, and I couldn't create a folder if you put a gun to my head! I'm no kid, and I get second jobs a lot. Places are generally thrilled to get someone with some real world experience who is willing to work. Indeed.com is a good resource for local jobs. Apply for anything & everything you feel even remotely comfortable with. You never know what might work out. Stay positive, you will be fine.

(((KRF))) I really wonder if there's such a thing as a manager who has any empathy. Every manager I've worked for advanced to their level via the Peter principal :( I quit my last job after the final straw dropped too. I'd worked there for over 19 years and put up with a lot of sh*t but when that last straw drops, it drops. I'll bet your former manager is going to regret losing you. I hope someone tells him he's in the wrong job if he's so into himself that he can't apologize for wronging an employee. I hope your next boss appreciates you :)

Whatever happens, you've done the right thing. You should also find that you have more knowledge and skills in the locker than you realise. That'll come in handy if you have to jump sectors (plus you have good people/customer-facing skills, right? Those are priceless. Pretty much every role I see has something about needing 'Excellent communication skills' and suchlike). And if you find no one will give you a job, you can always work for yourself. It's tough, especially right out of the gate, but there are certain compensations (and if your boss turns out to be an a-hole...well, who do you have to blame but yourself? ;)).
Nothing but the very best wishes here.

Amongst everyone else's words I'll just add a HELL YES. Because I'm classy this way.
Good for you KRF. So many people spend their entire working lives in a miserable job because they don't know how to get out. It takes courage and it's definitely not easy but to sound utterly cliche' life really is too short. Hearing your manager say that was just the kick you needed to move on and it may end up being your blessing in disguise when you find something and someplace you love.
Work is tough as it is and we American's work ourselves to death compared to most other countries. Why spend it doing something you hate?
Congrats!

Hi All. I turned in my two weeks notice on Saturday so June 3rd will be my last day of employment. I have no job lined up to go to. I finally reached the point where I could not take any more of the stupidity of management and stress that this job involves. Plus, my manager basically called me a liar on the walkie-talkie headsets that everyone wears and even after it being pointed out to him by another employee that he was in the wrong (I wasn't lying) he didn't have the decency to apologize to me for his mistake. Sorry, but one of my main credos in life is don't call me a liar. I cannot work for someone who obviously doesn't think very highly of me or respect me. Many of you know that I have not been happy at my job for quite some time. My inner voice tells me it's time to move on and that's what I'm doing. There's so many things wrong with this job and company and I'm not going to have a mental breakdown because of a job. I'm scared out of my mind as I'm a 57 year old male with limited skills so I don't know what's going to happen in the next few months but I intend to give it my best. I'm going to need as many well wishes and happy thoughts that you all can spare. Thanks for 'listening'.
Good for you! I admire your bravery - I'm sure you'll find something better; just hang in there and get ready for a big change :encouragement:

Thank you! I'm one of the most dependable employees out there, but that doesn't seem to matter where I work. Too bad for them.

They're going to miss you - once you're gone you will be hard to replace; but like you said, you deserve more respect - glad to hear that you made this decision.

Good luck with the new job search kingricefan :love_heart:
