Something where she isn't a female poster child for fat and gross would do me fine. To keep having those two things connected in public perception is a crying shame, and every overweight person (especially woman) who panders to that stereotype makes it worse. She's clearly capable of more than fat jokes/sight gags, foul language, and over sexualizing.Melissa McCarthy is, IMHO, a one trick pony. Yes, she's funny, but she needs to change it up now or her career will be over. Let's see something from her in a drama.
Here's the rub: Convince the American viewing public that overweight can be overlooked. But first, convince yourself.Something where she isn't a female poster child for fat and gross would do me fine. It's not a matter of overlooking; it's the confluence of 'fat' and 'vulgar and gross' in public perception that is the problem. Ask yourself this: if it was a skinny, gorgeous woman creating the characters she creates, would it be considered 'hilarious'? No. We've created a mythos that fat people are 'funny' in a mainly gross way--they burp, fart, act extremely vulgar, take pratfalls by the hundreds. This is men and women, but a heavy man CAN be taken seriously as an actor, on rare occasions. Not a heavy woman, and added to those 'typical' fat people actions listed above, she's usually sex-crazed. And audiences watch, laugh, and think, "Yeah, that's just how fat women are!" Expecting every fat actress to be a 'hilarious' fool is no different than expecting every POC actor or actress to follow the stereotypes assigned them by society. Yeah, they come in for a ****ton of stereotyping, as well, but we're at a point where there is at least some public outcry when it's too much. Crickets when Melissa McCarthy or Rebel Wilson play yet another overweight, vulgar role. The only heavier American actress who I can think of that has avoided much of this is Kathy Bates. I admire the hell out of her. Here's the rub: Convince the American viewing public that overweight can be overlooked. But first, convince yourself.

When I was younger and hanging out at the bars with my friend Tim, I used to tease him and say that we were these two guys! We used to sit and make wisecracks about the other occupants of the bars. It was hilarious!Love the old dudes. My favorite muppet characters.

Maybe it's just my headache talking, but sometimes I feel like asking Marsha to shut this place down during the weekends, like it used to be when everyone was moderated full time.
