First I must agree with one of the other posters, I thought I caught a time/technology gaff, but I cant remember where or what it was.
I probably sound like a complete fool saying this, but twice Mike said to Devin "be careful, it's not white" though neither of them new what it meant. I assume they were talking about Lane's hair, but did Stephen ever mention that in the book? I thought it would become a bigger deal. I guess it doesn't matter, I was just curious.
Anyway loved the story, or perhaps I just love the way Stephen writes so much I would love any story he wrote. All Good!

It is mentioned in the book but would have to look up the exact page reference as I don't have it handy.

    Time is relative. Gaffs happen.

This may help-- found it back on a discussion when the book first came out---

Member asking question: I feel like I failed to pick up on the meaning of this recurring warning from Mike...

Is it a reference to the killer's dyed hair? ( this was in the spoiler)

I'm too dense to have picked up on it, I guess!

MsMods reply: Just got a call from Steve about something else so asked him your question and he said that what you've put in the Spoiler is exactly right--that's what he was referring to. :smile2:

Spoiler for those who haven't finished!! Don't click!!

Devin noticed that Lane's hair had a few strands of white in it the one time he saw him with his hat off. He figured out later it wasn't white hair he was seeing, it was blonde, the color of the killer's hair.

The Gaff, if in fact it actually existed did not bother me in the least. You're right they do happen.

I don't think it was a gaff at all. It was an intentional reference to the killer's hair.

    Welcome! :watermelon:
Joyland quickly became one of my favorite SK books soon after I read it. It is beautifully written with a sense of time and place that is just so palpable. I love that book!

I wondered the same thing....What does "It's not white," mean? I actually posted it as a question but accidentally wrote, "It's white."
