Have you ever felt like you belonged nowhere. For me, it was the adopted thingy. After that, it was the Newfoundland and Alberta thingy. In Newfoundland, we had the Brits and the Irish thingy. Feck, all the thingys!!!!! I am a Canadian and I live peacefully in Alberta. I owe nothing to Ireland or Newfoundland, for that matter.
What is your thingy, I may ask. I no longer have a question mark, I cannot afford one, apparently, along with Alberta prime rib roast. O Discordia! This is about Newfoundland, the most Irish island in the world...if you like stuff like this....enjoy......or not.

Let's see... My biggest identity crisis...

As a child my hair was blond, but then I reached an age where my hair started turning red. Was I blond or ginger? For the longest time I didn't know. It took me a while to accept my latent gingerness, what with all the real ginger kids saying I wasn't a true ginger kid and that I was "strawberry blond" and the non-ginger kids calling me "ginger." Tough times, indeed.

Then of course there was the time I discovered that I liked Marvel movies more than DC movies despite being a total DC fan. That was a truly difficult time.

But now I am content. I am happy myself. :m_haha:

Being gay and a child in the 60s and early 70s (when such topics were never discussed anywhere) and not knowing what all the mixed feelings you have are was very disorienting. For years I knew I was "different" but just couldn't figure out how or where I fit in. I literally remember the day I admitted to myself I was gay and would live my life as I wanted to. Very liberating, to say the least.

Sometimes I don't fit in anywhere. But I have nowhere else to go.

So one adapts. One works past being homely and socially awkward (or incompetent) and finds victory in overcoming the challenges day by day. One finds love and acceptance with the people who count. One finds pleasure in the fun things.

I've always been a misfit. I don't know why, I'm just a misfit. It's why I feel more comfortable around some gay people and other minorities than I do around normal people. Around normal people I tend to feel a need to prove myself, though that's usually a demand I place on myself.
