Watching the season finale of 24: Live Another Day this week, I couldn't help thinking about the similarities between Jack's overall journey from Day 1 - 9 and Roland's journey to the Tower. Basically, Jack fits in rather well as a gunslinger obviously, but it goes deeper than that. Much like Roland keeps repeating his day, basically until he gets it right, Jack is forced to deal with similar issues on a regular basis, until the final minutes in the series when he goes peacefully to pay for his crimes and the clock ticks down silently. In previous seasons, Jack tended to go underground (or be forcibly captured) when given that same choice, dooming him to have to repeat his actions again and again while just about everyone he loves was destroyed. Just like Roland.
I don't think the similarities are intentional, but once I saw them, I just can un-see them : )
