Somewhere over the rainbow
We got to the restaurant around the proper time,
Hugged a Giant, ordered Mai Tais (asked for extra lime)
Said hello to everyone dressed up in King Kon shirts,
Ate delicious food - although I passed on the desserts.
:icon_eek:
We were at a table with the vibrant Nomi K
(Bright, new, rising star in karaoke, so they say),
D1L9Y? - who got stuck staring at the sun -
And, one of my favorite people, Jane - who's her plus one.

We signed postcards 'til our hands were cramping up in pain
Which we cured with Morgan's thoughtful gifting of champagne.
Once again, we raised our glasses as we toasted Nate.
Then a night, already good, climbed all the way to great!

Ms. Mod passed out gift bags that she'd crammed with awesome swag.
Then she picked out names for more gifts... I don't want to brag
But, I won! A bookmark cross-stitched by someone who's skilled,
Plus a tote bag and artwork! I was completely thrilled!

Then two very special ladies who'd done so much work
Handed out more gifts to us... And I felt like a jerk.
Misery Chastain Loves Company (that's hard to rhyme)
And Stacy270 put in some overtime.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the work you've done
Making sure that all of us who went had so much fun...
Story of the caravan on Sunday has to wait.
If I do not leave for an appointment, I'll be late.

Can someone tell us more about the panel discussion with Bev Vincent, Robin Furth, Gerald Winters and Glenn Chadbourne?

Was there a Q & A? And what fun stuff did you learn?
It wasn't a formal panel discussion but they did answer questions about their work and the creative process and how they became involved with Steve professionally. Gerald told us about how he came to start his store in Bangor.

...if no one gets to it, I will bring up a couple of tidbits later...on road now-taking Tracy to a lighthouse....it was again, her only request....family dinner this evening with our group and then begins the long road home...

I can try....a lot of the discussion revolves around TDT, and although I think this might be Sacrilegious to say, I’m not a Dark Tower fan. That part of the discussion was a little bit beyond my capability to understand or follow, but Robin was an excellent speaker and she shared some of her experience working as a consultant for the movie in Hollywood. She talked about Ron Howard, and how he was a really great person and he hugged her. I guess that kind of really floored the other muckety-mucks in the room. Then Robin put Marsha on the spot asking for some stories about crazed fans that have written in to the office for Steve, and Marsha didn’t disappoint! Gerald talked about his flood. Bev was a good speaker but I’ll defer to someone else to cover the content of that discussion. Glenn was awesome to listen to because he has such a thick accent and poetic way with words. He was asked about consulting Steve for something that he wanted to do and getting permission to do it, and he eloquently said “if I didn’t ask I’d still be a virgin, right?“.
That’s the best I can do for now

I’m not the only one? I figured that would make everybody hate me
I enjoyed the series and I have a special spot in my heart for Wolves of the Calla, but the first three, I think, were his best. They have an aura of mystery (like a Dali painting) that doesn't exist in the later books. Don't get me wrong, it was genius how he wrapped it up but I would have preferred he'd written them at his normal pace, even at the risk of not completing them. For me, something was lost in later books.
Yes, the Low Men in yellow coats will be coming for our heads, Nomik. :)

I learned about the low men in UR! I honestly can’t get past book 3 and I’ve tried twice. I sort of have a rule about life being short and if I can’t get into a series by book 3 I should seriously think about putting it down. I’ve just discovered that my car has a CD player. Ive been listening to the books we got on CD in my car. It’s an early 2000s BMW so no Bluetooth. I have an hour commute each way to and from work, so if I can listen to the books this way, I might give it another go. OK I’m pushing right up against being late back from lunch.

I used to listen to audio books on tape on my commute because my Buick didn't have a CD player. The good news was that my library had a big selection of books on cassette, including Stephen King books. Treat yourself to On Writing. Hilarious and entertaining. Duma Key was very well done; so was IT.
