Grandma and I were planning on a fall trip to tour New England later this year. But in thinking about it, spurred in no little part by this thread, plus the fact that we already had a busy travel year (Las Vegas in August)(what, what?!?), Chicago in September, I'm wondering if we shouldn't just put it off for a year and schedule it around the Kon. Then you all could meet the withdrawn, aloof guy and the charming blonde and wonder how in the world they belong together.

It sounds good. It's very tempting. Just can't quite commit to it yet. But here's hoping. You guys are definitely, definitely worth it.

....oh ye of the long and magnificent smelling tresses and immaculate beard-not to mention the body of Adonis, wouldst thou grace this simple gathering of peasants with thine presence....????
Posted elsewhere but, again, a picure of you at the first Bangor Kon:

Right. My better half says it might be doable, but only if she can also visit a friend of hers in North Carolina. So, the question is, how much do domestic flights tend to cost, and would it be cheaper for me to make her drive, especially as we're both keen on seeing Noo Yoik City while we're over? :D
(Flights from the UK alone look like costing a grand each. Bloody rip-off.)

If you're willing to do some driving, it might be cheaper to fly into Boston or New York. It's about a 4-hour drive from Boston to Bangor. Not sure how much it would be to fly to NY, then Boston, and drive so may or may not save you any money there. It's about an 8 hour drive from NYC to Bangor if you decided to just drive instead of the flight in between. On the money front, though, you'd also need to compare rental car prices, fuel, etc. from each city. A flight from Boston or NY to North Carolina might not be too bad and you're more likely to be able to get a direct flight from either of those cities.

In truth, she's the one who'd be doing the driving so it's really up to her. I'd take my turn driving, but I don't have a licence so I doubt the cops would like it. :biggrin2:
Fuel might look cheap from wherever. Ours runs at £1.29 a litre, so roughly £5.68 a gallon. Right now that's equivalent to $7.19.
Maybe I will end up paddling over, after all...

;-D Well, there's a really convenient and reasonably priced bus from Logan Airport (Boston) to Bangor. Gas prices in Boston look like they're hovering around the $2/gallon price today but there's a lot of mileage between there and NC. It's roughly a 12 hour drive from Boston to North Carolina but that's just to the border--she'd have to figure out how long from there to her friend's in NC. Still might be worth checking into flights and then a rental car once she's in the area.
