Strange Magic-strange movie. Absolutely gorgeous animation, but a weak story. The music rights probably cost a pretty penny, too; all pop hits, from Elvis to Lady Gaga. G. Lucas clearly has too much money--someone should have told him that his story was sub-par. His age is showing, too: the elf character was uncomfortable to watch. He was presented in a vaguely racist fashion: he has dark skin, so his only 2 songs were by Bob Marley and Michael Franti--I love both songs, but other characters sang a variety of songs, regardless of race. Plus they had him mugging almost like the 'darkie' characters in '40s films--lots of pulled faces and shrieking. Even my 9 year old commented on it. As I said, the animation was stellar, but I don't think I'd watch it again.

Death Proof - F*ckin awesome. Loved the exploitation film vibe. Loved the dialogue (unlike some people). Loved the end chase (better than any CGI action scene I've ever seen). If you have an attention span, it's well worth it.

And, it has a lap dance. That is ALWAYS a bonus. ;;D
You forgot to mention that it's got Kurt Russell in the 'bad guy' role this time. That is always, always a bonus!! How'd ya like the car crash scene?

Hot damn, that car crash was brilliant.

I love how he replayed it several times just to show each character's demise. Poor Butterfly, getting her face ripped off. Ouch. And the arbitrary use of the Wilhelm Scream was the icing on the cake.

I'll tell ya, that movie brought back memories of the first Mad Max.

Yeah, it's a pretty raw movie. I like how thru the first part you couldn't tell if Kurt was a nice guy or not....til the end anyway.

DeathProof is a great film.

Love Tarantino's work. I really would like to see him direct a Dark Tower movie.

I just feel bad for the Challenger the girls are driving :(

And man, Jordan Ladd (Shanna) is hot

Yep, but you really aren't sure what he's up to then, are you? I haven't seen the second movie either. That one has Rose McGowan in it and one of her legs is a machine gun!

Planet Terror is the other half of that Grindhouse production.

That's a great movie as well. Michael Biehn and Tom Savini are awesome in it. Then there's Rose McGowan. To quote Wayne, from Wayne's World, SCHWING!

I thought it simply wasn't a very good film. The story, even within the grindhouse genre, made no sense. Tarantino's flair for character and dialogue seemed to have deserted him - peppering the script with four letter words just for the sake of it does not make a good script. The dreadlocked lady in the second half of the movie spouted caricatured profanity to such a ludicrous extent that it became both tiresome and offensive (and, for what it's worth, the DVD's subtitles insert extra F-bombs which aren't even spoken). And, putting the bad language to one side, there were a number of stupefyingly banal and boring conversations between these groups of women, none of which had any plot relevance whatsoever, and all of which went on for what seemed like hours.

Tedious, self-indulgent, empty.

Not much of a Tarantino fan myself, since Pulp Fiction. Self-indulgent is the right term for him.

Saw Suite Francaise. Now I read the book whaen it came out in 2004. The description on the flyleaf intrigued me. Very tight writing and showed how war affected ordinary people doing their best to carry on with their lives. Then I read the appendixes. Blown away by the story behind the story. The film didn't dissapoint on any level. Beautifully shot, well acted and it looked on screen like it did in my head.

You know what really turned me off of Tarantino? Listening to an interview with him. I thought, holy granola, this guy's ego and self-impressiveness (not to mention logghorea) never ends. Don't get me wrong. I think he has a lot of talent, and no one realizes that more than he does. Hence a little of him goes a long way, and he doesn't offer just a little.

X + Y - maths whiz teenager with autism issues competes in Internation Maths Olympiad: engaging true-life drama with great performances. Recommended
Insurgent - Hunger Games poor relation continues: great cast somehow doesn't fully connect. 3D is a waste of time
Run All Night - Liam Neeson and Ed Harris go head to head as old army friends at loggerheads when Leeson kills Harris' son
