The Wedding Ringer--Kevin Hart and Josh Gad. Cute and funny in places. Regular comedy fare.
The Judge--with Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Duvall. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm a big Downey fan though. Seriously, this guy is my age--looks like he's 20.
th
(I love Downey Jr, too, and D'Onofrio who's also in The Judge.)

Titanic. Perhaps you've heard of this one. Features a huge ocean liner.

It sinks.

Okay, so I finally have watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. Never saw it before. I don't get it........ Cavemen. Space. Crazy computer. Floating black monolith. Fetus. Still don't get it......
*Gorgeously filmed though.
I don't think I'm thick-headed (shut up, Scott!;-D) I mean, come on, the first time I saw Inception I knew exactly what 'level' they were on at all times.....

The Martian. Liked it a lot, good acting from Damon. Still no earthly (heh) idea of why it was in the Comedy category for the Golden Globes. A few funny lines =/= a comedy film.

When they played Starman, I lost it. I know the film was made over a year before we lost Bowie and there was no way they could know how poignant it was. But it was.

I liked it as well, but some moments seems controversial. It could be more scientific, despite it's a popcorn movie, not documentary.
In addition, i've been waiting for more detailed depiction of way of life in conditions of lack resources. More realistic, you know. Several scientific mistakes, such as wrong atmospheric density on a planet and his flight on orbit using "jet-hole" in a glove to stabilize the rotation, it definately could be more realistic. NASA should be facepalm after watching that.
Quite good to watch it with your family on saturday evening, but nothing more.

lol... I read 2001: a Space Odyssey and Clarke's short story The Sentinel (which was about the cavemen and the monolith) before the movie was released so I understood the movie... but I had to explain it to everyone who hadn't read the novel or SS

I was disappointed in the movie, I thought it was long and boring and I was already familiar with the classical music in the soundtrack so I didn't get the big deal about it either.

I agree, I've seen it a couple times and just don't get the hype. 2010 was even worse.

There's nothing (that I caught) about the 'starchildren' in the movie. The only reason I know about that is because Bluntie PM'd me with info. It makes sense now, but if one hasn'r read the book, one is left wondering just what the heck one has watched....

It's helpful to think of the movie as a story about the evolution of Man and that that evolution was initiated by intelligent beings for an ultimate goal. Kubrick's version telling of the story is Kubrick obscureness at it's highest.

I saw it when I was maybe 18. I had the same reaction. (And I got Memento before the denouement, so I'm not completely stupid about movie things.) If you're going to make me connect the dots, at least keep the drawing on the same page.
