Peggy Sue Got Married. (Streaming on Hulu+)
Peggy Sue faints at a high school reunion. When she wakes up, she finds herself in her own past, just before she finished school.
Wow, what a blast from the past and so many stars!!!! (Nicholas Cage has a weird voice in this movie. )
We subscribed to HBO NOW through Hulu, just until Game of Thrones is over for the season. One month free, we'll pay $15 for the second month, then done. Do you have Hulu? The Take is on there, if you haven't seen it.Where did you watch this? I need some Tom Hardy today.
Neil, I usually agree with your movie reviews, but couldn't disagree with you more on this one. I just finished Moonlight, and thought it deserved all its nominations. I am not black, gay, or from a ghetto, but I loved and cared for the characters from the beginning. Who hasn't been bullied as Little was, even though it may have been a fraction of what he went through? What parent hasn't made mistakes with his children that he regrets and wants to make right? Who hasn't witnessed injustice to African Americans or gay friends, even if only on TV?Moonlight
I think I need to say a bit more about this one as it was the Best Film winner this year and I was expecting great things.
I thought it was awful.
It was about a character I didn't care about, set in a background I didn't identify with in any way, featuring dialogue which I mostly couldn't understand. I had some sense of identification with the drug addict mother (my mother is alcoholic), but no identification with anything else.
And it was slow, dull, and boring, with arty-farty camerawork, by which I mean lots of closeups with out-of-focus backgrounds, in which nothing happened.
If you're a quasi-autistic gay black bloke from a Miami ghetto, you might get more from it than I did. It is by far the worst of the best Film nominees this year, out of the ones I've seen (about two thirds of them) and I can't believe it ever got nominated.
The word "agenda" comes to mind...
Okay, I see. I don't have Hulu, but had seen The Take years ago. It's a great book too, if you've not read it.We subscribed to HBO NOW through Hulu, just until Game of Thrones is over for the season. You get a virtual blue ribbon. While I agree with Neil that it had some arty-farty camera work, the story was solid, as was the acting.Neil, I usually agree with your movie reviews, but couldn't disagree with you more on this one. This film is outstanding in that it leads the viewer through Chiron's life and the tragedy of what many of our children go through in their own homes every day of their lives. My son has trouble understanding why anyone would choose to use drugs or sell them. I think this film shows how it's just the way some kids grow up...as normal to them as brushing your teeth or playing video games are to others. To say this movie is just part of an agenda really downgrades its message. I understand if you don't like it, but to play it off that way is unfair, IMO.
Isn't that funny? I didn't even notice the camera work. Guess I was too caught up in the story. I think this may be my first blue ribbon from you, and I am very proud! *Hangs ribbon on virtual shelf*You get a virtual blue ribbon. I haven't! Definitely one I'll look up. I think Bronson is the only one of his on Netflix right now. Oh wait! Peaky Blinders is also there, and he's batshit crazy in the second season of that! Have you seen Rocknrolla? Marie Antoinette? Elizabeth I: The Virgin Queen? Wuthering Heights?Okay, I see. I don't have Hulu, but had seen The Take years ago. No, I've not seen any of those!! I'm new to The Netflix scene and don't have any other streaming services except Amazon Prime. I'll look for them all. Tom's best when slightly crazy!I haven't! If you haven t seen The Drop, do it right away. The main actors are tremendous: Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Gandolfini. Schoenaerts is another actor that I hope breaks out in America, because he is just incredible. If you don't mind subtitles, see if you can find Bullhead or Rust and Bone (both Belgian--the director of Bullhead is the one who directed The Drop, as well). Both movies have parts that are very difficult to watch (seriously, both made me ugly cry, Bullhead early and Rust and Bone late in the movie), but they, and he, are absorbing. No, I've not seen any of those!! Clearly the film must have been doing something right - it wouldn't have been in the running for best film if not, let along winning. You get a virtual blue ribbon. While I agree with Neil that it had some arty-farty camera work, the story was solid, as was the acting.
Rocknrolla is one of my favorite films. Love Hardy's 'coming out' scene. Too funny!I haven't! Definitely one I'll look up. I think Bronson is the only one of his on Netflix right now. Oh wait! Exactly! How boring the world would be if we were all the sameAnd a good mix of agreement and disagreement is what makes talking about movies (and books) the fun it is
