I purchased the 'Alien' anthology on bluray from Amazon and have been watching all of the 'extra's on it. Pretty interesting stuff! It contains the first four movies, both the original releases and then 'director's extended' versions. Amazon had it on sale for less than $20!! For bluray!! I'll probably have an 'Alien' film marathon on my two days off this week!

I have that too. I don't think I've ever got through all the extras but it is a great set. I love watching "the making of" featurettes that involve Ridley Scott. The guy can do anything. Whenever I see Ridley talking about making a movie, it makes me think that a director actually is a building contractor in charge of a 100 million dollar building project. As well as knowing about movie making things, directors have to have a decent knowledge of construction, electrical, cameras. lighting and a whole bunch of other stuff. Ridley reminds me of a contractor on a large building project. He knows something about every subject imaginable.

Ridley is indeed a pretty smart guy. None of the sequels lived up to what he put forth on the screen with 'Alien'. The second one (directed by James Cameron) is one of the best sequels of a movie ever, but doesn't have the mystery of the first one. After watching the featurettes, I found out that David Fincher didn't even have a complete script before they started filming, had all kinds of 'industry' folks showing up daily with ideas and scenes they wanted him to film. Guess it shows on the screen.......

Didn't realize so many of us had the Alien anthology on Blu-ray. We should form a club or something.
Have you used the MU-TH-UR mode yet? I am a little afraid to try it. There's tons of things listed in the 'extras' scetion that I'm guessing you have to go into MU-TH-UR mode to see/hear?

I watched a grundle of movies this weekend :) Friday: Trance (James McAvoy in a Danny Boyle film--it was pretty fantastic), Dream House (pretty good), Gangster Squad (eh). Sat: Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (I thought I would hate it, but it really made me laugh!), Warm Bodies. Sun: Warm Bodies again--lol DH hadn't seen it, so I watched it with him. In there I also watched a BBC vamp series called ULTRAVIOLET--WOW. So well done! I wish it was more than 6 episodes.

I haven't tried a lot of the MU-TH-UR mode stuff just yet. Eventually, I will. I initially watched the movies and a few of the extras when I got it. Next time I will probably go a bit more in depth and really check out all the bells and whistles. There's just so much stuff, lol.

I just got done reading the Elmore Leonard book, "Stick" and noticed the movie version was on Netflix so I watched that. It was an awful adaptation. I guess if I had not read the book, the movie would have been ok. I actually liked Burt Reynolds as the Stick character. In typical Hollywood fashion, they took the great cat and mouse game in the book and substituted car chases and gunfire and forgot about the great story.

Why does Hollywood spend money for these books if they plan on shooting a completely different movie?

I watched The Green Mile on blu-ray. I had never seen this before (don't know how I missed it) and was impressed. This is one of the best adaptations of SKs work. This was over 3 hours long on blu-ray. Does anyone know if the original theatrical version was that long? If so, kudos to the Hollywood guys for not chopping it up to fit into 2 hours.

The Green Mile was released in theaters in Dec 1999 and it was 3 hours, 8 minutes long. ABC later chopped it up for television.
