15:17 to Paris

I wanted to like this movie more than I did. The core story, of a group of international folks, including three American friends from childhood, foiling a mass shooting/terrorist attack on a train in France is a gripping one. The director, Clint Eastwood, has done a fine job with real-life events in the past (American Sniper, Sully).

But this story just isn't comfortably stretched out to movie length. The actual event lasted maybe 10 minutes, and the movie got its filler time from back stories that are rather cliched, fairly unremarkable - although with bright spots - and slow-moving. The three mischievous kids - I enjoyed these actors - set upon by the rote, rigid school system. Got it. Two pf tje friends make their way through Europe to meet with the third friend, and they have a good time as tourists till boarding the fateful train. Got it.

Eastwood did something brave and worthy by casting the actual three Americans whose story this involves. While the intent was good, it doesn't always work, and their lack of acting experience is sometimes a little jarring, but I appreciate the effort and thoughtfulness that went into this decision.

Overall, it was watchable enough, but that's in opposition to Eastwood's other true-event other movies that were captivating. It's more of a story for a Discovery Channel documentary than this movie. The foundational story is compelling. Its execution, less so.

That's one of those I can watch anytime, anywhere, and coming in on it at any moment.

"Here's to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won. Here's to America's colors, the colors that never run."

"May the wings of liberty never lose a feather."

I mean, you just have to have inspiration going to have that time of semi-serious dialogue with just the right spice of self-mockery.

Deadpool 2 - loads of fun, but somehow I didn't enjoy this as much as the first, probably because the story then was leaner. Still, it's a fun time at the cinema.

Cargo - if you're sick and tired of the zombie genre (as I am) then this is the zombie film for you! Not kidding. It stars the ever-excellent Martin Freeman as an infected father carrying his toddler daughter through the Australian outback, searching for haven before he succumbs to his infection. The other big star here is the stark, beautiful landscape of Down Under. Saw it last night on Netflix. Very much worth your time.

It was done to make her seem a little goofy. She would never remove it.

Norma Watson (1976)
Thanks for sharing! That makes sense about the hat being linked to Norma's character traits. Added bonus for the writer of the fan page's figurative language in describing Norma's death: "Norma was either trampled on and killed by panicked students or burned to death in the raging fire like a grilled giant gourami." I learned about Carrie and a type of fish I'd never heard of before!

Wesley Snipes is airline security specialist John Cutter, who just happens to be onboard when terrorist Charles Rane, played by Bruce Payne, breaks free from FBI custody and takes everyone hostage. In true Die Hard scenario fashion, Cutter is the right man at the right place at the right time. The plot isn't exactly airtight, but it's more than redeemed by its brisk 83 minute runtime and plenty of moxie from Snipes in a role that made him a star. Payne is entertainingly diabolical as the cold-blooded Rane, and it all adds up to fast, no-nonsense entertainment. And remember: "Always bet on black."
