The Way Way Back (2013) Sam Rockwell, Steve Carrell

A teenage boy is having to spend the summer with his mom and her new boyfriend, who he does not like. He does not have any friends at the place they are staying and ends up hanging out at the local water park (owned by the Sam Rockwell character) where he makes some new friends and takes a job there to get away from mom's new boyfriend as much as possible. It's a familiar storyline but it's well done, often humorous and it has Sam Rockwell, who always makes everything he's in a little better. I liked it.

    Spider Baby with Bela Lugosi.

Wow, they had to dig for this one. The acting was horrible. The story, horrible. But, it was so odd and disjointed, I made it through.

House of Games, with Lindsey Crouse and Joe Mantegna. It's a good thriller about a psychiatrist who gets involved in the world of one of her patients who's a gambling addict.

Was that made after Bela started having substance problems? Apparently, he would do any role he could get. That's how he ended up in those Ed Wood movies. BTW, Ed Wood is an excellent flick if you haven't seen it.

I have not seen Ed Wood. I wonder if it is on Netflix.

Hercules (2014). Good visual effects, cool 3D, but I did not find it interesting to watch... Not sure I would ever watch it in usual 2D format.

We enjoyed it! I think I enjoyed it more than Grandma, but she said she liked it nonetheless.

Hey, I can see if people find it interesting but then discordant. I can understand if they think the shark got jumped in the last 20.

For me, it made sense (within the paradigm of the plot) all the way through, I liked it, and I didn't begrudge the money that we spent.

    More lately:

On TV, one of the cable/satellite channels: Aliens. We even own it, but we watched it nonetheless. What a wonderful piece of filmmaking that was. James Cameron at his best.

Now on TCM: Around the World in 80 Days. Starring the impressive David Niven. Apparently won Best Film for 1956. Grandma's still watching, mostly for the cameos. I got bored and gave up.

Yes, it is.....and you should see it. It's a Tim Burton film, and it's really well-made. Martin Landau won his Oscar playing Bela Lugosi in this. I won't spoil other cast surprises; just rent it and enjoy. :)

Watched Guns, Girls and Gambling on Netflix. It was entertaining. Christian Slater was actually tolerable in this :)

Did anyone see Guardians of the Galaxy? It was really awesome and so funny! It's definitely unlike any other Marvel movie (maybe because most of it's in space...but amongst other things, haha). The cast is great; it's really cool seeing Chris Pratt in a leading role; he was very charismatic as Quill. I enjoyed Bradley Cooper as Rocket, too, but I think the one who surprised me the most was Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. He kicked butt and was very funny, as well.

    Plus, the soundtrack was stellar.

Really excited for the sequel and what this brings to the Marvel cinematic universe.

We've got grandkids duty next weekend, and we're planning on taking them to see Guardians. And looking forward to it!

I'll confess that when I first saw the promo for this movie, I thought it looked just too goofy. But the buzz has been... well, stellar.

Watched Thelma & Louise last night on Netflix-did not help my state of mind, needless to say!

I remember renting that on VHS back when it first came out to rent, taking it to my sister's house, watching it with her and at the end she turned to me and said 'They make it to the other side, right?'

    skimom2 Just moseyin' through...

LilMan wanted to watch a flick on Netflix: Adventurer: The Curst of the Midas Box. I think it was called Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box in the UK. Steampunk adventure--I liked it quite a bit more than I expected to. Michael Sheen was wonderful, as was Sam Neill. It looked like it was shooting for a sequel, and I quite hope there is one :)
