I remember those days....There was nothing open, grocery stores, convenience stores, nothing. Hardly even any traffic at all. Ahhh, I'm so damn old...lol

I sat in line for hours on Blitz Friday at Walmart for my kid. She had to work and she REALLY wanted a new hi-def tv to use as a monitor -- she's a gamer. It wasn't so bad. But I live in a very small area, too. I don't think I'd do it in a bigger city.
That's how I do as well. Each gift has a very special meaning. Nobody ever gets it right for me . . .except you Lady Spidey.
There's a market for this . . .our news stations do mall parking reports during the day.

Some stores offer triple pay for employees that volunteer to take the holiday shift. I don't doubt that there are plenty willing to eat dinner a day early or late for money like that.

We have Christmas decorations up - they were right next to the Halloween stuff - it's probably the same down in the States I figure

Your situation is a little more necessary than shopping. Still sucks though.
I worked retail during Christmas when I was in college. People are so darn mean.
I have recently heard that now Target is following suit of other stores and opening up on Thanksgiving day at 8...OH MY!
Unless people don't go, it will become the norm. I wish people would boycott these shopping events that are on holidays just out of respect for the people that work at the stores.
If you open it, they will come. Except me, cause I don't shop unless it's necessary. I love a good sale, but I hate fighting crowds cause it makes me angry and impatient, so I generally just save for what I need and if I can save a few bucks, fine. It's supposed to be such a happy time of year, but now it just seems to be make money, spend money, get deals, and so on. Where is the fun and the thought that used to go into this time of year? Oh, Lord I am getting so old. I have officially turned into my mother.
The holiday madness begins earlier and earlier every year. Christmas decorations were out before halloween was over in our stores here.
Hobby Lobby had their Christmas trees up in July.
I don't like Hobby Lobby. I try not to shop there.
Just read that Costco has said no to Thanksgiving early shopping. Thank goodness someone stands up for family.
My grocery- Publix- has placed large signs out front and in windows: We will be closed Thanksgiving Day. Yes!!!

Okay - I think this is the wrong thread but it is somewhat related. I told a girl at work that someone got trampled to death in the States on Black Friday. I said he was only 34 years old. She gave me a weird look and said "really?" So I went on Google to look this up and it turns out it happened five years ago in 2008! (Are we in a time warp here at the SKMB?) cuz I could have sworn there was a thread on this and of course I just took it at face value??
